Whether or not you’ve started working on your fall wardrobe, get ready to try the hottest makeup shades for the new season, for both your eyes and lips.
Making the jump from the runway to the red carpet, the Fall 2014 makeup color trends can help you shape your color palette for the new season. Find out which are the hottest shades this fall, after making a strong impression at Fashion Week.
After becoming one of the most important shades of the Spring/Summer season, blue is continuing its dominance for fall. Dior and Kenzo are some of the biggest brands who opted to showcase their runway looks with gorgeous blue eyeshadows.
Whether you prefer a simple cobalt look or want more drama with a metallic blue smoky eye, you can’t go wrong with this color for Fall 2014.
No-makeup makeup was also a strong presence on the runway, with taupe becoming one of the top Fall 2014 makeup color trends. Highlighting and playing with light and shadow using only soft neutrals can create a beautiful and effortless look. Givenchy, Valentino and Erdem showcases the power of taupe, with or without a lighter shade blended into it.
Pastel Grey Eyeshadow
While taupes and classic nude shades are definitely in, Marc Jacobs opted for a more daring approach to neutrals, going for sheer gray eyeshadow on the runway, complimented by with chocolate eyeliner. If you think taupe is too drab, then start playing with grays, but make sure you also include more warmer nudes in your makeup, including peach or even soft pinks.
Purples and lilacs are also among the coolest Fall 2014 makeup color trends. Whether applied only to the bottom of the eyelid or all over for a more graphic effect, lilacs paired with taupes or other nudes were seen on the runway during fashion shows by Chloé.
Diane von Furstenberg and Burberry Prorsum. If you think purple is too much, opt for an iridescent lilac and keep it contained to just the lower part of your eyelids.
Metallic makeup is definitely big this season, but the most trendy look is definitely silver. Vera Wang and Donna Karan both opted for silvery smoky eyes at Fashion Week. Pairing your eyelids with gunmetal nails is also a hot look, that delivers both on sophistication and edginess without becoming too matchy-matchy.
Shades of green, especially metallic and glittery, are also among the Fall 2014 makeup color trends.
While Anna Sui mixes jewel tones of blue and green on the eyes with bold lips, Derek Lam and Altuzarra opted for more muted lips, while letting green take over the look with a touch of glimmer.

While Badgley Mischka used gold eyeliner, keeping in theme with the metallics trends, the most sophisticated look not involving black or brown was used by Ports 1961. Opting for a dark teal that’s still bold enough to make a splash, but not so vibrant that it takes over the look completely was an inspired choice, so don’t be afraid to experiment with blue or teal eyeliners this fall.
Dark Berry or Plum Lips
Summer’s berry lips are going dark. Plum is one of the most sophisticated Fall 2014 makeup color trends for lips. While Helmut Lang opted for burgundy lips, a softer plum is the more wearable color this season. Try a sheer color if you have thin lips and make sure you choose the right shade for your complexion: pinkish purples for fair skin and blue-based shades of plum for darker skin tones.
Most metallics were restricted to the eyes, but Rodarte skipped over plum and went straight for a glittery bronze. This trend needs a lot of confidence to pull off, but if you’re in the mood for a more dramatic look, stick to taupes for the eyes and try a daring bronze lip.
Bold Red Lips
Saturated reds aren’t exactly a new trend, but they’re also part of the Fall 2014 makeup color trends.
Zac Posen experimented on the runway with bold reds with neutral eyes with a touch of black, while Anna Sui paired her jewel shades of blue and green for the eyes with a strong red lip.
