How many times haven’t you yearned over a granola bar? Granola bars are yummy, delicious and nutritious. They are healthy snacks which I’m sure everyone likes. Some granola bars found in stores may not be as healthy as you think because they can contain a lot o sugar. Also if you like eating a few every day, it might get a little bit expensive. So in order to save money and know exactly what you are eating you can try to make your own granola bars. Here are some homemade recipes:

2 cups of oat meal

¾ cup of wheat germ

¾ cup crushed any type of seeds you like

1 cup crushed peanuts

2/3 cup of brown sugar

½ cup of honey

a few tablespoons of butter

a touch of salt

fresh or dried fruit

Mix the peanuts, oatmeal, wheat germ and seeds together and place them in the oven at about 325º Fahrenheit for 15 minutes stirring once in a while to make sure they don’t get burned. Mix the sugar, honey, butter and a little bit of salt, put in on the stove and bring it to a simmer while mixing constantly.

Pour the mixture over the toasted oat mixture. Add the fruit and mix everything to get a homogeneous composition. Put your composition in a cooking tray covered in cooking paper. Spread the mixture well and push it so the mixture can stick together better. Wait for it to cool off, cut it into bars and enjoy.

Tip: Granola bars are great for breakfast just make sure you don’t eat them in excess. one or two bars should be enough if you don’t want to gain extra weight.
