Affordable Zac Posen wedding dresses? Thanks to the designer’s partnership with David’s Bridal the idea is no longer a utopian dream. Despite designing for his three lines and being a judge for Project Runway, the renowned designer still found time and creativity for a new initiative: bridal wear. Though avid fans of the designers might recall that he dressed close friends Portia De Rossi and Coco Rocha on their big day, this is the first time the designer is releasing a line for the average brides to be.
Fortunately, the designer decided not to leave hefty price tags keep women from enjoying the craftsmanship and creativity that made the label one of the biggest names in the industry today. “Over a decade I’ve been making custom one-of-a-kind bridal pieces for very rare, lucky women that can fit into our very crazy schedule—it’s a very personal experience. And I really wanted to translate that into a line that would be at a price point and that could reach a lot of women,” the designer told uk.eonline.com.
For Pamela B. Wallack, chief executive officer of David’s Bridal, the gorgeous dresses by the designer spotted frequently on the red carpet was the thing that sparked the new initiative: “We brainstormed for several months because we had a very successful launch with Vera [Wang’s White by Vera Wang label]. As always, we were looking for what’s next. We were talking about dramatic red-carpet movie-star kind of looks, and Zac came to mind,”she explained.
The Truly Zac Posen wedding line will be launched in February 2014. Initially six ivory wedding dresses and five social occasion dresses carrying the designer’s ‘modern, yet totally nostalgic’ style signature will be offered, however, the lines will be rounded out to 10 items later on. The new Zac Posen bridal gowns will have prices ranging from $850 to $1,350 while the social occasion dresses will have prices ranging from $195 to $225. Still, bringing affordable wedding gowns doesn’t mean sacrificing the high standards of quality the Zac Posen label has come to be known for, an aspect that was highlighted several times.
Tooting his own horn, the designer said about his dresses: “There’s a romantic classicism to them with a va-va-va-voom quality. “The workmanship is extraordinary. My hand and craft went through all of it. These are going to become collector items.” What’s more, the Truly Zac Posen wedding collection for 2014 won’t cater solely to the typical small sized women most designers typically cater to. Sizes 0 to 14 will be available off the rack, while for sizes between 16 and 26 special orders will be taken.
