Rachel Zoe didn’t present her fall 2014 collection during the New York Fashion Week as it was originally planned as she preferred spending time with her newborn son, Kaius Jagger, born in late December. Last week, however, she finally presented her newest creations for fall in LA at the Soho House. If past collections were focused on the bohemian aesthetic, this time the focus has changed. The stylist turned designer took inspiration from the ’60s and looked at some of the defining characteristics of French women’s style.
Masculine influences play a crucial role in the new Rachel Zoe fall 2014 collection since cool tailored pieces are among the options fashionistas are interested in wearing. Regarding the collection, Rachel stated that:
“I wanted to create a collection that embodied French bohemia with mod elements – tailored jackets, short shifts, houndstooth prints and textured tweeds – cool wearable pieces that women want right now.”
Aside from textured tweeds, she also brought mohair, velvet, suede, sequins and leather accents into the mix for interesting contrasts. Pattern-wise, geometric and abstract elements were preferred, even though animal prints were also included.
The focus on versatility is also noticeable color-wise. While colorful accents are well reflected, the designer opted mostly for versatile neutral shades which offer a multitude of possibilities when it comes to creating cool outfits. Androgynous accents also define the new accessories the brand has prepared for the cold season. From versatile high heel ankle boots to masculine pointy toe flats, the brand has prepared a myriad of cool options worth indulging in.
Sixties influences extend beyond the garments included in the new Rachel Zoe fall 2014 lookbook. The jewelry pieces that helped bring a fab glam vibe to the new looks also carried significant details inspired from the glamorous era. Another way in which the designer upped the glam factor of the new line was through a few metallic accents that instantly attract attention.
