Just as speculated, Lady Gaga is the new face of Versace. Just as the news was finally confirmed we’ve had the chance to see Lady Gaga sporting a very similar dress to the one she wears in the new Versace spring/summer 2014 campaign at the 2013 AMAs. One of the reasons for the lucrative new gig is the fact that Donatella Versace and the star are friends. The designer herself stated: “I am honoured that my friend Lady Gaga is the face of our new Versace campaign. I wanted to capture her true beauty and spirit in images that are elegant and alluring. She is like family to me, the embodiment of the Versace DNA.”
The artist’s new album ‘Artpop’ also proves the bond the two share as the star dedicated an entire song to her friend. The song is titled simply “Donatella”. After the official confirmation, the star also shared the news with her fans on her social media accounts: “I’m so happy to be working w/ @Versace for the new Campaign! What do you wanna wear this Spring?#Donatella #famiglia.” The new Versace spring 2014 campaign featuring Lady Gaga was shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott. Though the luxury label claims that “Lady Gaga appears as her divine and glamorous self” in the new set of ads, it’s quite clear that she’s channeling Donatella in the new ads. The resemblance is striking!
Though just two images of the Versace spring 2014 campaign have been unveiled, it’s quite clear that the new endorsement deal was definitely a smart move. Lately we’ve had the chance to see her natural beauty more than in the past; we’ve rarely seen the star fully exploring her feminine side. Moreover, the glam yet edgy allure highlighted by the new ads really suits her. The label described her as creative, experimental and fearless and this is exactly the vibe she’s giving off in the new ads.
Even though the sexy lilac toned cutout dress and the classy black handbag are the options that initially attract attention, there are many more exciting accessories worth drawing inspiration from in the new line. Aside from cool statement rings, the new ads also bring one of the coolest trends spotted on the runways: nail rings, a cool alternative to nail art.
What do you think? Is Lady Gaga a good fit for the luxury label?
