2014 allowed many celebrities to rise to the best dressed list, but it was also a downhill slide for others in the style department. From the worst dressed celebrities at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards to the VMAs and American Music Awards, this year was full of bad ideas that simply didn’t work on the red carpet.
Check out the worst dressed celebrities of 2014 and find out what their biggest style mistakes were this past year.
Heidi Klum
Despite her duties as the host of “Project Runway”, Heidi Klum’s fashion choices on the red carpet always had tacky elements. This year, the former Victoria’s Angels model took things to a whole new level with her “car wash” dress at the Emmys, created by Project Runway contestant Sean Kelly.
However, that wasn’t nearly her single fashion faux pas this year, since her choice of Versace for the American Music Awards was equally uninspired.
Lena Dunham
After setting the bar pretty low at the Golden Globes in a canary yellow Zac Posen gown, Lena Dunham proved she really belongs on the list of worst dressed celebrities of 2014 with her choices for the Emmys and the Met Gala. At both events, the “Girls” star wore Giambattista Valli and while her Met Gala dress was just bad, her choice for the Emmys was truly hideous and unflattering.
Katy Perry
While the Valentino dress she wore at the Grammys was a divisive choice for fashion critics, Katy Perry really hit a new low with the Atelier Versace denim dress she wore at the VMAs. We got the reference to Britney and Justin’s all denim look, but this wasn’t a step up in any way. As for her tour costumes… let’s just say she’s no Beyoncé.

Anna Kendrick
After landing on the worst dressed list with her choice of an Azzaro dress for the Grammy Awards, “Pitch Perfect” star Anna Kendrick cemented her place among the worst dressed celebrities of 2014 with her choice of J. Mendel for the Academy Awards and Atelier Versace for the Vanity Fairy Oscar Party.
Kim Kardashian
There’s no doubt that the best dressed mantle has been passed to Kylie and Kendall in the Kardashian family. While Kim’s style is usually improved when Kanye has a say in it, the reality TV star only had cleavage in mind when she chose her outfits for the 2014 MTV VMAs, GQ Awards and even the Met Gala, where her last minute belt change didn’t improve her look one bit.
Lady Gaga
The singer’s style seems to have hit a rough patch this year, starting with the Academy Awards, where her Atelier Versace gown failed to impress fashion critics. However, she ended up as one of the worst dressed celebrities of 2014 because most of her appearances ended up disappointing, despite access to the biggest designers in the world and her own Haus of Gaga design collective.
Jennifer Lopez
JLo’s Reem Acra dress worn at the American Music Awards screamed “trying too hard” and her other fashion choices this year have been equally uninspired, from the Zuhair Murad dress she wore at the Hollywood Film Awards to the cleavage revealing Gucci Première gown she wore at the LACMA Art + Film Gala.
Kelly Osbourne
While the “Fashion Police” is paid to critique the fashion choices of A-listers, she also belongs on the list of worst dressed celebrities of 2014. The Badgley Mischka black dress she wore at the Grammy Awards let her down, and she managed to overpower the delicate lace of the Honor dress worn at the 2014 Emmys with too much jewelry.
Paula Patton
Even though she might have been distracted this past year because of her divorce from Robin Thicke, Paula Patton made some pretty bad choices on the red carpet. At the Golden Globes, she opted for an overpowering Stéphane Rolland creation, followed by a zebra lion combo at the Grammys in Nicolas Jebran and a very unflattering shade of yellow in Lorena Sarbu for the Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Zoe Saldana
After starting with a Prabal Gurung trainwreck at the Golden Globes, Zoe Saldana never really managed to bounce back this year. She earned her place worst dressed celebrities of 2014 thanks to her choice of a Michael Kors gown at the Met Gala and plenty of other boring looks.
