Going viral in July, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge helped raise over $100 million in August for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, with the help of celebrities, athletes, and even politicians. Even though it’s been criticized for wasting clean water, the challenge kept becoming more and more popular.

The phenomenon has truly gone viral and raised awareness for the disease, but the best celebrity ice bucket challenges also showcased a lot of entertaining moments. Check them out.

Anna Wintour

Nominated for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by her daughter Bee, Anna Wintour joined the rest of her family in pouring ice cold water on her head, temporarily ruining her perfect pageboy hairstyle. 

The Vogue editor-in-chief nominated Roger Federer, Dominic West for the challenge.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

After accepting the challenge accepted from Tyler Perry, Ben Affleck came up with one of the best celebrity ice bucket challenges when he threw himself into the pool taking his wife Jennifer Garner along. Since the moment was unexpected, the actress’ phone was sadly ruined during the stunt.

Kim Kardashian

One of the biggest holdouts for the Ice Bucket Challenge, Kim Kardashian finally got a bucket of ice water thrown on her by Ellen DeGeneres. Kim wanted to take a selfie during it, but ended up focusing on screaming.

Chris Pratt

Trying to play it cool by drinking some Blue Ice Vodka instead of getting doused in ice cold water, Chris Pratt also ended up creating one of the best celebrity ice bucket challenges when the water ended up on him from the balcony above.

Lady Gaga

Either making a statement about the nature of art itself or simply trying to look as glamorous as possible, Lady Gaga poured her own bucket over her head. Unlike most celebrities who accepted the challenge, including LeBron James, the singer didn’t make a sound.

Drake

Raising awareness for ALS Association during one of his concerts, Drake also came up with one of the best celebrity ice bucket challenges. His fans cheered when the ice water came pouring, but truly went wild when the singer took his t-shirt off after.

Martha Stewart

Pouring the bucket of ice over her head right before getting her hair done, Martha Stewart chose to challenge three other “domestic goddesses” and the entrepreneur chose Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively and Ellen DeGeneres.

Justin Timberlake

Accepting the challenge from two Boston marathon survivors, Justin Timberlake got together a large group of people for one of the best celebrity ice bucket challenges. The singer and actor challenged Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, who were quick to accept it.

Demi Lovato

Another celebrity who decided to accept the challenge in public, not in their own back yard, Demi Lovato decided she could take 5 buckets of ice cold water in a row. After drying up, she ended up making five nominations, and also encouraging people to donate for research that could improve the lives of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients.

Robert Downey Jr.

Nominated by Bob Iger, Robert Downey Jr. took on the ice bucket while in the pool, but his reaction clearly proves that it wasn’t easy, and ends up turning it into one of the best celebrity ice bucket challenges, especially since his pregnant wife did the pouring.

Lena Dunham

Nominated by Jaime King and Taylor Swift, Lena Dunham stripped down to an orange swimsuit and decided to pour the ice water on herself. The actress, writer and producer ended up nominating her “Girls” co-stars Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells.

Having the ice water poured on her Gayle King was certainly funny, but Oprah’s reaction really makes this video special. She’s also one of the few celebrities targeted by a recent World Net Daily editorial which claims the ALS ice bucket challenge is a satanic ritual.
