If its currently a darky red or purple colour please dont go any lighter! It will mix with the old hairdye and create a pink or light purple colour! trust me, i have been there and I had to deal with pink hair for 1 year

i agree with the other answer, going alot lighter will ruin your natural hair so maybe a dark red or a redish purple
