I think you should just be completely honest and show/tell him that you like him. Guys like when a girl is brave enough to do that. But if you're not ready for that yet, maybe you can simply start talking to him or chatting online, and get to know him better in case you don't. Then later maybe you can start flirting and see if he's interested and eventually tell him you like him. :)

How do I make my first move?
I wanna get a bf soon, I know the comments are probably gonna say oh you don't need a bf, but I like this guy but a lot of other girls like him too, I need to make my move slowly but it needs to be effective.
