I guess you don't mean homemade, but doing a perm at home. Right? You don't want to try to mix up you'r own perm solution, you want to buy one from a drug or makeup stire. Well doing a home can be fun, but you have to have all the rods and rollers. Depending on the color and size of the rods, you either get tight or poufy curls. Um so, I don't think you should try to give yourself a perm the first time. It's too hard to do unless you're really experienced. I'd get a friend to do it for you and maybe you could do her (or him, some boys get perms too!!) as well. Here are a few links that show how to do it

Depending on if you're black you could be talking about a relaxer/perm which straightens hair but if you want a perm that will make your hair curly I recommend not getting one at because perms/relaxer are too damaging.. I'm black and perms cause alot of breakage and thinning. You'll be better off straightening your hair with a hot comb/flatiron (using a heat protectant) or curling you hair with a curling iron or a roller set. Just try stick with your natural hair and style it accordingly and steer clear of chemical processes like perms. I hope I helped somewhat. :)
