Try going over patches with sand paper, that's what I do when I want my denim shorts to have a distressed look.

you could bleach some parts of them, or you could add your own cuts to them, run some sand paper of the rim of the cuts to make them fray-ish haha. Theres a ton of youtube videos you can watch on distressing jeans.
