you'll want a bright shade or it'll blend in. also it's great if you can go to a salon and get it done
you can look in my blogs under 'hair' there is a post called crazy hair colorations that has a link to a site with tons of hair colors
and you may need to slightly bleach the color out first then add the purple that's y it's safer to go to a salon the first time and see what they use and how they do it

Purple will look great in black hair. see if you really want it so show up in your hair then yes you will need to bleach out the chunks or wherever you want the purple. I used the purple from manic panic for my hair and i like it. I had to lighten the areas of hair first.
