While the benefits of giving up refined sugars completely are still controversial, many celebrities have taken the leap and decided to stop eating anything but natural sugars, and very little of them.
Discover the celebrities who don’t eat sugar and find out what their reasoning behind this strict dietary decision is based on. From Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Biel to Miley Cyrus and Jessica Alba.
Founder of lifestyle website Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow is one of the celebrities who don’t eat sugar who’s been very vocal about her reasons. “Today, over a third of the calories we consume come from sugar or white flour, which is highly refined and acts just like sugar in our system.
Our bodies cannot cope with such an enormous load. Sugar gives you an initial high, then you crash, then you crave more, so you consume more sugar. It’s this series of highs and lows that provoke unnecessary stress on your adrenals. You get anxious, moody (sugar is a mood-altering drug) and eventually you feel exhausted,” Paltrow wrote on her website, explaining that it took her a full month to kick the sugar habit.
While Gwyneth Paltrow has created her own diet by staying away from refined grains and sugar, Matthew McConaughey has simply opted to follow the principles of the Paleo diet. Sticking to the diet that out ancestors ate thousands of years ago means no processed sugars, and McConaughey has certainly proven that you can look lean and healthy if you avoid processed foods, along with gluten and sugar completely.
McConaughey’s healthy lifestyle hasn’t rubbed on his “Magic Mike” co-star, Channing Tatum, who recently told the Inquirer.net that getting in shape for the sequel is not fun: “There’s no sugar. There’s nothing I’m more addicted to than sugar.”
Having one of the most envied bodies in Hollywood isn’t easy, but Jessica Biel puts a lot of effort into it. She doesn’t just work out every day, she’s also one of the celebrities who don’t eat sugar. Justin Timberlake’s wife has even bigger dietary restrictions when she’s working. According to Glamour UK, Jessica also says no to bread, dairy, salt, and most meats when she wants to look her best on the big screen.
After getting diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2012, Jack Osbourne completely changed his diet, eliminating all foods that may cause inflammation, including dairy, grains, and refined sugars. “I am a firm believer in you are what you eat. I juice a lot, I try and stick to a Paleo Diet,” he told ABC News.
Another gluten-free star, Miley Cyrus has used the Paleo Diet to lose weight and to stay healthy. She’s also one of the celebrities who don’t eat sugar, and her dietary restrictions have certainly paid off when it comes to her lean body. “Everyone should try no gluten for a week! The change in your skin, physical and mental health is amazing. You won’t go back!” Miley tweeted.
“I eat almost no sugar,” the star of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” told Life & Style magazine. She’s even managed to reach her ideal weight thanks to avoiding hidden sugars. Her weight loss secret has been restricting sugar calories to under 100 per day, following the dietary guidelines in “Happy Hormones, Slim Belly” by diet guru Jorge Cruise.

She’s one of the celebrities who don’t eat sugar and sticks to low glycemic carbs. “If I need a sweet fix, I’ll stick to natural sugar. Who can say no to fresh cherries or strawberries?” she explained to Healthista.com.
“Criminal Minds” star Eva LaRue is also among the celebrities who don’t eat sugar, since she adheres to the Paleo diet principles. She got into the diet thanks to her husband, but doesn’t always find it easy to follow on set. “When we travel it’s a little harder to figure your diet plan out when you’re eating out all the time. It’s really tough when you’re eating at restaurants a lot,” she told Paleo Lifestyle magazine.
