The competition between famous retailers seems to be a very fierce one as more and more of them are teaming up with famous designers in an effort to provide designer pieces at affordable prices After the Lanvin for H&M project it seems that the famous retailer might teaming up with the Tom Ford to keep things interesting for the following season.
Right after finding the rather shocking news that Karl Lagerfeld will design for
Macy's, a new similarly unusual but very exciting rumor is
beginning to excite the imagination of style conscious women with
refined taste who are looking for affordable designer pieces.
Although it might seem rather unusual to some, rumors say that Tom
Ford is planning to design a limited edition collection for the
retailer.
The rumors have brought a lot of excitement and controversy for
various reasons. While successful partnerships between famous
designers and the retailers are not a novelty, some argue that a
partnership of this kind would contradict some of the core
principles the designer stands for.
It seems that Tom Ford strongly believes the fact placing a
collection over the internet long before it is due leads to
overexposure which diminishes a customer's appetite for the entire
collection. Tom Ford himself declared “I don’t think it
ultimately serves the customer, which is the whole point of my
business—not to serve journalists or the fashion system. To put
something out that’s going to be in a store in six months, and to
see it on a starlet, ranked in US magazine next week? My customer
doesn’t want to wear the same thing she saw on a starlet!â€
Considering the fact that the designer is against the concept of
overuse of marketing techniques for his collections it can be quite
easy to understand the skepticism with which the rumor is being
treated. Since rumors say also state the idea that the collection
will feature some of the Tom Ford 2011 womenswear
designs featured in the December issue of US Vogue the
skepticism tends to increase even more.
Moreover since Tom Ford has always created expensive, high class
pieces many fashionistas are wondering about the reasons for
changing the standards and appealing to a whole new range of
customers. On the other hand we should not neglect the fact that
Karl Lagerfeld's initiative seemed equally unlikely. An additional
example can also be the recent Lanvin for H&M
collection which was received with a similar skepticism by many
people who couldn't envision such a collaboration.
Since no official statements were made by H&M representatives
nor Tom Ford himself the rumors are seen as highly speculative and
many fashion enthusiasts are not putting their hopes up just yet.
On the other hand in case the news will turn out to be true the
collaboration will be a much awaited and highly profitable one.
Even though it might be unlikely it is certainly not
impossible.
