Geraldo da Conceicao showcased his debut collection for Sonia Rykiel at Paris Fashion Week. Check it out!
The new Sonia Rykiel fall 2013 collection has been unveiled at Paris Fashion Week. It was Geraldo da Conceicao's first show for the renowned Paris-based fashion label. The Canadian-born designer, who also worked for Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent, and most recently, at Louis Vuitton as their women's design director, brought a line featuring pieces that reminded the audience of the Rykiel 70s and 80s aesthetic. His mission was, according to Rykiel “to design and carry out the creative relaunch of the women's Ready-To-Wear and Accessories collections.”
Well, Rykiel's daughter, Natalie, had confidence in the designer's talent. “With his talent and understanding of the Rykiel woman, there is no doubt that Geraldo da Conceicao will be able to take up the reins and project the image of this emblematic woman, loved by everyone in the fashion world,” she said. As for da Conceincao, he revealed that, “I am very proud to be joining the Sonia Rykiel fashion house. For me, Sonia Rykiel has always represented the irreverent Parisian woman: modern, sensual and with a certain intelligence.”
So, how did the new artistic director manage to impress the audience at Paris Fashion Week? The Sonia Rykiel fall 2013 collection featured loads of alluring pieces such as flare-legged knit suits, lovely cardigans and sweaters, chic dresses and skirts. Asked what inspired him, the designer said that, “Mademoiselle Sonia Rykiel.”
Speaking about the Rykiel woman, da Conceicao describes her as “an autonomous, intelligent and fully conscious sensual being who revels in her femininity - a synchronicity of intellect and heart.”
The Sonia Rykiel fall 2013 line included mostly black pieces but also some pretty pastels and eye-catching prints. Ah, those stunning sweaters spotted at the finale featuring mesmerizing motifs such as daisies and seashells. How cool are those? Have a nosey and see it for yourself!
