As the NYFW fall 2014 edition progresses, the list of interesting elements and creations that will come to define the upcoming months gradually becomes longer. Though each line has a distinct set of elements that makes them stand out, it seems like the focus on balancing feminine and masculine accents, functionality and minimalism has been a top concern for many of the creative masterminds that have unveiled their most interesting options for the fall/winter 2014-2015 season so far. Here's how these concepts were reflected in these labels' collections:

NYFW 2014: Monique Lhuillier Fall 2014 RTW Collection

The Monique Lhuillier fall 2014 collection was dark and mysterious, but utterly elegant as the designer got us used to. Though the label has focused more on daywear than she usually does, that was not the most surprising aspect of the new line, but the fact that she infused a lot more edginess into the new season creations, thanks to intricate skull motifs.

“I wanted it to be a little twisted, and really go somewhere I’ve never been before. The skulls create a mysterious, darker feeling–it makes it more dangerous than other seasons,” she told InStyle.com. Despite the fact that the label brought plenty of inspirational looks throughout the line, the strongest part was undoubtedly the eveningwear section which unveiled a multitude of show-stopping ladylike gowns. NYFW 2014: Jason Wu Fall 2014 RTW Collection

Jason Wu Fall 2014

In the new Jason Wu fall 2014 collection, couture meets North Face, according to the designer. Minimalism and luxury were the two defining concepts of the new line, ideas that were reflected in every single aspect from the beauty choices made to the shapes, fabrics and color palette of black, eggplant, dark green and silver that he chose for the new line. Though the tone of the new line felt somber given the dark chromatic choices, subtle romantic accents and bold cutouts made the new looks stand out. In addition to the slinky dresses that dominated the new line, the designer also focused on practical outwear choices bringing several interesting wool, leather and fur coats. NYFW 2014: Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014 RTW Collection

Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014

The Rebecca Minkoff fall 2014 collection wasn't inspired by an abstract concept or any obscure references. Instead, the designer took a very down-to-earth perspective and chose to focus on practicality. The new line combined masculine and feminine elements and brought a mixture of refined details and edgy options with a modern flair. Boyish cuts, metallic lamé pieces, occasion fur along with many sporty pieces were just some of the elements that managed to stand out in the new line. NYFW 2014: Herve Leger by Max Azria Fall 2014 RTW Collection

Herve Leger By Max Azria Fall 2014

The Herve Leger by Max Azria fall 2014 collection oozed sexiness and brought new and exciting variations on the brand's signature bandage dress. This season the label upped the ante with stunning 3D metallic jacquard and metal beading as well as with a clearly defined color palette which brought a distinguishable dominatrix vibe to some of the new looks. Though the brand also presented a few interesting coats and jackets, it was quite clear that statement making rather than functionality was the main goal of the new line. Among the most memorable elements from the show were waist corsets, feather trimmed mini skirts and stunning peep toe boots. See the complete Herve Leger by Max Azria fall 2014 collection!

NYFW 2014: Victoria Beckham Fall 2014 RTW Collection

Victoria Beckham Fall 2014

The Victoria Beckham fall 2014 collection brought several interesting variations of the boy-meets-girl aesthetic, though it was a different approach from what we saw in her spring 2014 line. Though sharp tailoring and clearly defined proportions were still a strong focus, there were also plenty of feminine elements that toned down the minimalist vibe of the new looks. The designer also experimented with abstract motifs, in rather small doses, bringing a touch of novelty to the new looks while still keeping in mind her loyal clients' needs.
