Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls was named Estée Lauder's new spokesmodel for 2011. Beautiful and natural, Small seems to be the perfect choice in order to represent the brand's cosmetics and skincare line. She has been chosen not just for her face, but also for her personality.
The 22-year-old Puerto Rican model Joan Smalls was signed as the
new international ambassador of Estée Lauder. She will appear in a
global advertising campaign set to be released in May 2011
representing the brand's cosmetics and skincare products. Smalls is
the third model signed by Estée Lauder in 2010, joining models
Constance Jablonski and Liu Wen, with whom she filmed a TV
commercial in New York.
Aerin Lauder, senior vice president and creative director for Estée
Lauder says about their choice: “Obviously she’s beautiful, but
she’s confident, happy, elegant, well-spoken, and grown-up, and it
really comes through in her pictures. When we pick someone to
represent the brand, it’s about her personality, too. It’s not just
the face. You find yourself not being intimidated by her beauty,
but drawn in by her warmth.”
This year seems to have been an incredible one for Joan. Her
modeling debut took place in January 2010 as the exclusive model in
Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy couture presentation. Then, she modeled
for all famous designers, such as Marc Jacobs, Prada, Louis
Vuitton, Gucci, Jil Sander, Derek Lam.
Speaking about her new role as global ambassador of the famous
brand Estée Lauder, Joan said: “When I found out I was in my hotel
room in Milan during Fashion Week. I started jumping on the bed
like a little girl. The hardest part was keeping it secret - even
from my parents.”
Joan Smalls told 'W Magazine' that she realized that she wanted to
be a model "when I saw on E! True Hollywood Story how much a model
can make and how I can achieve a better living for my family and
me." Moreover, she describes herself as being "caring, funny and
astute".
