"No no, it's a bit of Elvis in Hawaii, and a bit of Jane Birkin
and Brigitte Bardot in St.-Tropez around the late '60s and early
'70s," Isabel Marant said about her
spring 2013 collection. And it was indeed a super-cool, easy-chic
line featuring some pretty stunning pieces that make us dream of
lazy days spent on the beach. Yes, this is what tropical-inspired
goodies can do!
The designer opened the show with red and black Hawaiian floral
prints used for one-shouldered wrap minidresses, micro-shorts, and
straight-leg pants. Then, it was time to enter into the western
part of the collection! Still, one could also observe a special
boho flare! There were paisley printed coats, leather-studded
jeans, jewel-embroidered leather jean jackets, ruffle dresses, and
studded cropped pants. Gorgeous jeweled and studded ankle wrap
sandals completed the outfits!
Isabel Marant is famous for her effortlessly hip and chic
creations. "It's always about bringing self-confidence," she told
Fashionista. "I'm like every woman, so I try to work on how to look
slimmer or how to look taller but not being overdressed. I think
most of the time when you dress in the morning, you go towards
something that's very pretty but at the end you say, 'Ah, no, I'm
having a hard day, I need to have something easy that I'm not
afraid to break.' It's a balance of fashion and a way of life."
Oh, and how can we forget about those absolutely irresistible wedge
sneakers? "It's something I did since I was a teenager. I would cut
up cork and put pieces of cork into my sneakers because I wanted to
look taller," the Parisian designer said. "And I always thought
about this, what I was doing when I was young, and I thought I
should really achieve something around this idea. Sneakers are so
comfortable but at the same time it's not very elegant. To have a
little heel in it makes a difference, it gives you legs - I mean, I
know women, I am a woman, so I know what we are searching for!"
