The Isabel Toledo x Lane Bryant plus size collection for spring/summer 2014 was designed with a simple desire in mind: bringing beautiful clothes for women who are often neglected by most clothing retailers. Designer Isabel Toledo used Cuban influences for her new line for the specialty retailer which offers apparel in sizes between 14 and 28.
The idea behind the new Isabel Toledo x Lane Bryant spring 2014 collection is simply allowing women to feel elegant and sophisticated while at the same time having enabling them to be eccentric. Isabel told Fashionista.com that she felt it was her duty to provide that opportunity:
“For me, it’s really important that women are given the opportunity to be eccentric. The liberty, the freedom, the right to be eccentric, to be their size, and to have the freedom or the opportunity to enjoy fashion at any size [...] I can’t imagine not having that, so I feel a duty to provide it.”
The limited edition Isabel Toledo x Lane Bryant collection brought feminine fifties inspired dresses with romantic floral prints, chic abstract elements and elegant lightweight coats, chic tunics and feminine blazers. Lane Bryant chief executive officer Linda Heasley also stated that the new collection was also an opportunity to unveil a few plus size fashion rules that can be broken. “We are breaking the myths. Our clients can put on a belt. Our clients can wear stripes. She can wear a lot of the things she was told she couldn’t. We are pushing the thinking even further in the proportions,” she told WWD.com.
Even though the designer focused on bringing fashionable items worth indulging in she also focused on versatility, bringing several monochrome options with a high degree of versatility. The apparel pieces from the new Isabel Toledo x Lane Bryant spring/summer 2014 collection retail for prices between $60 and $178.
