Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been to sweet 16s where the girl is made to look 13! I'm guessing it's your mom who is trying to make it too child-like (my mom is the same way!). So why not have a talk with here and tell her how you feel. Maybe you could suggest something like a fashion party where everyone dresses up since you love fashion. That would be a great party.

Choose a theme for the party....the 80s Disco era, Egypt or other fun themes.....I love those parties...and it's perfect for your age...

I was thinking of a tropical color scheme but now I'm not so sure. My mom doesn't like themes like those because she think they're "tacky." I suggested maybe adding lounge pieces or a photobooth but those may be out of our price range. any other ideas? thanks guys!

I agree with you completely, but I've tried talking to both my parents and they always pull the "I'm paying for it so.." card. It's not so much the theme as much as the aspects of the party. Like most things I suggest my mom says "That's too bar mitzvah" or "That's to mature for you." I keep trying to remind her that it's my party but she's stuck on her opinion, too.

You know what would be a terrific theme--The Great Gatsby. All those fabulous clothes. And it would definitely not be tacky. Have you read the book yet? If not, you'll probably read it in school this year or next. You will love it!! They're making a movie version with Leo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan that should be awesome.
