Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and
Nathan Sykes. Girls, meet The Wanted! Described as one of the most
well received boy bands in years, The Wanted are now landing on the
latest cover of Glamoholic magazine. The five boys sit down for a
chat and talk about their beginnings as a band, their upcoming
album, touring with Justin Bieber, and many more.
Asked whether they had any reservations whatsoever going into this
project, Jay admits that, "I think when we first started, which was
about three years ago. Everyone was nervous about being in a boy
band. The idea of being in a boy band was the same as the one that
was in the nineties. Which was dancing and often lip-syncing. We
didn't want to do that. We were nervous but quickly realized that
we all had the same idea of where we want to go, how we wanted to
do it and what songs we liked. So by the time we came here I think
we know who we are now, I think we're very happy."
Besides their great talent and unique looks, the guys are also
famous for their courageous statements. "Sometimes if we're out of
line we'll be told 'Boys remember your manners!'. We're all grown
men, sometimes we have heated discussions with record labels or
management but I think we often know where to draw the line. We're
just honest," Tom told the magazine.
It seems that the Beckhams and their kids are huge fans The
Wanted. But do the boys see them often? "Yes, we've seen the kids
the other day. They came to see us at Wango Tango. They're really
well brought up kids, really beautiful kids. We see David all the
time but we have not met Victoria," they told Glamoholic.
On the craziest moments they experienced while touring with Justin
Bieber, the boys reveal that, "We toured with him in Brazil, but
for me the one that stood out was the O2 in London because none of
the kids there knew about it and we got brought out to the stage
and everyone was just losing their mind."
The first single from their second album, 'Gold Forever', reached
number three on the UK Singles Chart, while the single "Glad You
Came", topped the singles chart in the United Kingdom for two
weeks, and in Ireland for five weeks. But how do they feel about
doing it again with 'Chasing The Sun'?
"It's weird because everyone's still loving 'Glad You Came' and
'Chasing The Sun' doesn't really start building for another couple
weeks at radio. So it feels like a bit of pressure. Our profile has
gone higher and higher. Obviously you've got to deliver the music
as well and that's been a really important feature for all of us.
The music has always been really good so hopefully we get the same
reaction," Tom explains.
In the interview with Glamoholic the boys also dish on how much
they are involved in the creative process of their videos. "First
couple of videos it was very record label based if you watch the
video 'Heart Vacancy' we're walking down the streets looking a pack
of biscuits," Tom says. "Like Krispy Kremes," Siva adds.
On the sound of the new album, Jay reveals that, "Actually, we were
listening to a lot of the songs today because we have not all heard
the songs that each been writing, and I think it's gonna be an
absolute stomper. Some songs are kind of aggressive and others are
still like party vibe. I think that will always be a theme for
us."
Speaking about their relationship behind the cameras, Tom confesses
in the magazine's cover story that, "We're all really cool, from
the moment we moved in together we all had the same idea about
where we wanted to go. Just in terms of being friends as well. We
all like to party and we all like girls."
Jay adds that, "We don't live together anymore, we lived together
for about two years because we all lived away from London. It made
no sense for us to travel so we got our first house together, which
was great. It was a total mess but it's a real quick way of getting
to know somebody."
