'New Girl' actress Zooey Deschanel talks about accidental beauty pageants, old school music and style with Company Magazine, March 2012. Find out what Zooey had to say!

Talented 'New Girl' actress/singer Zooey Deschanel might play the role of a nerdy teacher but it seems that she's not at all like that in real life as she shares a one of a kind moment of her childhood that proves so, with Company Magazine March 2012. Posing like a true pro for the magazine, Zooey Deschanel radiates beauty and style, details that have helped her attract fans all over the world.

Speaking about accidentally entering a beauty pageant instead of a talent contest when she was young, among others such as old school music and her fashion style, Zooey Deschanel proves that she's a 'tough cookie'. The 32 year old sweetheart tells Company that she once entered a beauty pageant by mistake, but stayed through to the end out of ambition, despite her mom and sister having a good laugh. She said:

“It was basically all the trappings of a beauty pageant, without the swimsuit round! You had to do a big musical opening number and answer the sorts of questions they ask in beauty pageants, about charity. I was horrified once I realized what it was. I thought I was entering a talent contest – a pageant was not cool! But I'm not a quitter, so I stuck it out, and my mom and sister laughed at me the entire time. I didn't win. A girl who played the viola did.”

With a known passion for music, having released a few albums, Zooey Deschanel shares her first experience at a concert and more. She says:
“Interviewing Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys was life changing. So was the first gig my parents took my sister and me to. It was a Rolling Stones concert in a giant arena when I was eight. Guns 'N Roses opened, and Axl Rose wore buttless pants. I was mortified that you could see his butt! At eight that was like the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.”

As far as her style goes, Zooey has managed to find the style that defines and suits her personality best. Flirty, feminine yet with a little bit of 'nerdyness', Zooey's unique style has been labelled iconic by most people. On her fashion style, Zooey states that she's not eccentric but she does like to wear outfits that are sometimes weirder. She tells the magazine that:

“I'm not Lady Gaga – I don't push the envelope that much. I probably do more than most actresses, as I have my folk rock band, She & Him. People in the music world are allowed to go a little crazier; actresses usually stay so safe – it's cool to be between. I'm not afraid to wear something weirder, even if people don't like it.”
