Yasmin, Cindy, Naomi, Eva and Helena. World's top supermodels cover Harper's Bazaar UK December 2011. The magazine's special issue features the five supers who star in a new Duran Duran short film as the group themselves. Have a look!
Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford,
Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin
Le Bon were brought together in order to star in a new Duran Duran
short film directed by Jonas Akerlund, but also to strike a pose
for the December issue of Harper's Bazaar December
2011. In the film, called 'Girl Panic!', the famous supermodels are
featured in the group as themselves.
"We have made some pretty ambitious videos over the years, but this
one was certainly the most challenging to date. Coordinating the
schedules of five of the world’s biggest super models, Jonas, and
the band was no easy task – but we couldn’t be happier with the
finished film. It has all of the ingredients that we feel are
important – it’s humorous, glamorous, sexy and very Duran Duran,"
Simon Le Bon, lead singer of Duran Duran said.
Each model is dressed up as a member of the legendary band.
Therefore, Naomi Campbell embodies Simon Le Bon’s, Cindy Crawford
becomes John Taylor, Eva Herzigova poses as Nick Rhodes, while
Helena Christensen is Roger Taylor and Yasmin le Bon is the
anonymous guitarist.
Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes stated that, "Harper's had
approached us about collaborating with the magazine on something
really special when the new album came out. I’d had this crazy idea
for a video for the song Girl Panic!, that looked fantastic on
paper, but that I thought in reality would be impossible to pull
off. The idea was to recreate a day-in-the-life of the band, with
five of the world’s greatest supermodels playing all of us. Lucy
loved the idea of doing a cover shoot within the video itself – and
so it all began."
Speaking about the collaboration, Harper’s Bazaar UK Editor Lucy
Yeomans says that, "This is without doubt, Bazaar’s most ambitious
project to date and a fashion magazine first. Bringing together
five of the world’s top supermodels with one of the most iconic
bands in music history and shooting the cover during the making of
a short film, was no mean feat. But this exciting combination of
music and fashion is a perfect mix for Bazaar and we are so happy
to have been part of this ground-breaking production."
The five supers also sit down for a chat with the magazine and dish
on their highlights of 2011, their secret weapons, beauty, and
future plans. Naomi reveals her enduring motto saying that, "Trying
to erase stress from my life as much as possible. I’m reading an
amazing book called 'Brilliant Stress Management by Mike
Clayton.'"
Eva gives her own definition of beauty as being "delicate
imperfection", while for Helena, beauty is "The sight, the smell,
the feeling – anything related to my son. I have to fly back to New
York tomorrow because that’s where he’s at school, and he’s in a
band and it’s the last performance of his school. He’s 11."
Yasmin admits that "a vitamin B12 shot or, failing that, Berocca"
can make her feel as if she could rule the world, while she admits
that her secret weapon "changes, depending on the target, but
generally it is Simon."
Cindy Crawford's hope for 2012 is to keep a balance in her life.
"Each year I try to say 'no' to more things that aren’t meaningful
to my life or my family’s. I constantly try to maintain balance –
family, work, health, friends," she told Harper's Bazaar.
