Lady Gaga proves once again that money is not as important to her as the gay community she supports, since she has recently pulled out of a deal made with Target to create an exclusive deluxe edition of her new album, due to disagreements concerning Target's donations.
Not long after it was announced that Lady Gaga is going to collaborate with
Target to promote an exclusive deluxe edition of her new album,
“Born This Way”, Lady Gaga decides to back out on the deal due to
disagreements between the two parties.
Lady Gaga is known for her position as far as the gay community goes and she has been trying to help this community to be finally accepted. It seems that Target has along time donated money to anti-gay political candidates, and this contradicts what Gaga has been trying to do as far as the gay community goes.
Lady Gaga is definitely one of the most popular celebrities at the moment and she is one
of the celebrities who wasn't shy about using her fame to try and
promote gay rights. She has expressed her position firmly on
several occasions, and her efforts to make a change as far as
acceptance goes, have been appreciable. It seems that Gaga saw an
opportunity to make a change as far as Target's political stand
goes, so she has tried to make a deal and make an exclusive deluxe
edition for Target, with the condition that the company will
affiliate to LGBT charity groups to offer their support.
Gaga told in an interview for Billboard that:
“Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past.”
“Our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those groups.”
Target has donated money to various LGBT organizations, but according to Entertainment Weekly, Target has not pulled the plug on their donations towards anti-gay political candidates. This seems to be the reason why Lady Gaga decided not to go through with the deal.
Target has issued a statement saying: “We were very surprised and disappointed by the statements made by Lady Gaga's organization related to her partnership with Target. Target remains committed to the LGBT community as demonstrated by our contributions to various LGBT organizations, our recently established Policy Committee to review our political giving and our respectful, inclusive workplace environment.”
Well, one thing is for certain: Lady Gaga has yet again attracted the attention towards the gay community, so her efforts were not in vain.
