Many celebrities have had run-ins with the law, but some have put them behind them better than others. For every Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen or Mark Wahlberg, there are many other celebrities who quickly moved on from their legal troubles.
Check out some of the biggest celebrities with criminal records, from charges like DUIs to assault and battery, that don’t get mentioned in the press too often.
Khloé Kardashian – DUI
While the Kardashian’s legal troubles aren’t exactly secret (she was fired from The Celebrity Apprentice when Donald Trump found out about them), Khloé did manage to move on and not become linked with her legal troubles for good.
After getting sentenced in 2007 to three years probation for a DUI, Khloé broke the terms and was headed for jail one year later, but she managed to only spend 3 hours in incarceration because of overcrowding.
In 2001, when she known as Cheryl Tweedy, the singer was arrested for a racially aggravated assault, after getting in a fight with a bathroom attendant at a night club. The charges were later changed to just assault, and she’s one of the celebrities with criminal records who didn’t spend any time in jail. However, she did have to complete 120 hours of community service.
Just like his character in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, Will Smith got into some trouble when he was living in Philadelphia. He was charged with aggravated assault, along with criminal conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person after getting involved in a fight in 1989. Smith managed to escape the charges and continued his career as a singer and actor.
The “Orange Is the New Black” star has been upfront about the more difficult times in her life, when she was addicted to heroin, but she’s also had a lot of trouble with the law. She joined the list of celebrities with criminal records in 2001, when was arrested for a DUI, but three years later she was also charged with criminal mischief, harassment, and trespassing.
Some celebrities cause trouble when they’re inebriated if when they don’t take the wheel. While he was in college, the actor was charged with disorderly conduct, after dancing in the middle of the street and resisting arrest by running from the police. He also had legal troubles in 2002, in London, where he attacked a taxi cab outside a club.
The Playboy model turned actress is also one of the celebrities with criminal records. She was arrested in 1999, along with her then-husband Dennis Rodman after the two got into an altercation. After the incident, the judge ordered the two stay at least 500 feet away from each other. The two divorced the same year.
While he was playing Pacey on “Dawson’s Creek”, Joshua Jackson also got into trouble with the law in an unexpected way. A big hockey fan, the actor was arrested for assaulting a security guard at a game. Since he had a high blood alcohol level at the time, Jackson managed to escape any jail time by performing community service and attending an alcohol education program.
Four years before performing at the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show, Bruno Mars joined the list of celebrities with criminal records when he was arrested in Las Vegas for cocaine possession. After pleading guilty, the singer had to pay a fine, complete a drug counseling course and do 200 hours of community service.
After a DUI arrest in 1989, Christian Slater continued to have run-ins with the last, including assault under the influence in 1997 and third degree sexual assault in 2005. Video footage that became public showed him sexually harassed a woman on the street in New York.
“The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev was arrested just hours after the show’s premiere for disorderly conduct. The incident took place in Georgia, where Nina ended up as one of the celebrities with criminal records because she distracted drivers by getting photographed while simulating jumping off a bridge.
