However, managing two different schedules that keep them apart for long periods of time isn’t exactly the perfect recipe for a successful relationship. That’s why some A-listers choose to marry people will less commitments, who aren’t in showbiz.
Whether they hoped they’d have a long lasting relationship or simply didn’t want to share the spotlight, here are a few celebrities who married ordinary people, and are still together.
Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim
After two high profile marriages, with Patricia Arquette and Lisa Marie Presley, Nicolas Cage tried his luck outside of showbiz. In 2004, he married waitress Alice Kim, and they had a child together in 2005.
After a decade together and no sign of trouble, Cage clearly made the right choice finding a spouse that wasn’t interested in the spotlight.
Julie Bowen and Scott Phillips
The “Modern Family” star is also on the list of celebrities who married ordinary people. She got hitched in 2004 with real estate investor and software developer Scott Phillips. They have three children together and the actress managed to keep her personal life scandal-free.

Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa
The oldest Jonas brother also found love outside of showbiz. He met Danielle Deleasa on vacation in the Bahamas, and then married the former hairdresser in 2009. Kevin introduced her to showbiz, and the couple starred in the “Married to Jonas” reality show from 2012 to 2013.
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso
One of the biggest celebrities who married ordinary people, Matt Damon fell in love with a... bartender. He married Luciana Barroso in 2005, and they have three daughters together. Damon is also the stepfather of Barroso’s daughter from her first marriage.
Lisa Kudrow and Michel Stern
Less than a year after the hit sitcom “Friends” started airing, Lisa Kudrow had already found her soulmate, and they’ve been together since. The actress married Michel Stern, a French advertising executive, in 1995, and they had a son in 1998. They’re still together after almost 20 years.
Alec Baldwin and Hilaria Thomas
For many celebrities who married ordinary people, there’s also a significant age difference. After his divorce from Kim Basinger, Baldwin was single for a decade before he married Hilaria Thomas, a yoga instructor, despite a 26 year age gap. They had their first child, a daughter in 2013.
Vince Vaughn and Kyla Weber
Married at 40 for the first time, Vince Vaughn held out for the right woman and ended up marrying outside of showbiz, after his high profile relationship with Jennifer Aniston ended. Vaughn, wife is a Canadian realtor. The two were married in 2010 and already have two children together.
Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman
After a failed marriage with comedian Tom Green, Drew Barrymore joined the ranks of celebrities who married ordinary people. In 2012, she married art dealer Will Kopelman, son of former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman. He may not be exactly “ordinary”, but Kopelman has no interest in showbiz.
Conan O’Brian and Liza Powel
Talk show host Conan O’Brian met senior copywriter Liza Powel in 2000. Even though Powel appeared on a sketch on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, her career choice was still advertising. They married in 2002 and have two children together.
Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink
“Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey had a failed marriage with actress Rochelle Parker that ended in 1994, but when he tied the knot again, in 1999, it was with hair stylist Jillian Fink. Like most celebrities who married ordinary people, he’s still happily married.
Kelsey Grammer and Kayte Walsh
After being married to a dance instructor, an exotic dancer and a former Playboy model, “Frasier” and “Boss” star Kelsey Grammer married for the fourth time in 2011, this time with a flight attendant. She’s 25 years younger than the actor.
Chris O’Donnell and Caroline Fentress
Some celebrities who married ordinary people got hitched at the height of their career and still managed to make it work. Chris O’Donnell and elementary school teacher Caroline Fentress got married in 1997, and they have five children.
