Tripping happens to everybody, but few moments are as bad for it as when you’re walking the red carpet, in front of hundreds of photographers, fans, and many other stars. Here are the celebrity red carpet falls you can’t miss.
While some stars can make even stumbling look cool, others are less gifted when it comes to bouncing back after falling down. Take a look at some of the biggest celebrities falling on the red carpet and decide which incidents were cute and which more embarrassing than anything else.
Model and fashion muse Cara Delevingne took a tumble in London at the 2014 GQ Man of the Year Awards.
While she’s no stranger to runway falls, this time around she had a little help in getting up from Scottish fashion designer Jonathan Saunders. Delevingne kept her cool during the incident at the Royal Opera House and continued partying once she was up.
Few celebrities falling on the red carpet have as much trouble staying upright as Jennifer Lawrence. After falling down on the way to the stage at the 2013 Academy Awards, the young actress had another embarrassing incident involving high heels and big dresses on the red carpet at the 2014 Oscars. Luckily, Lawrence quickly rebounded, so her tripping didn’t turn into a domino effect fall.
British actress Emma Thompson went down after she was asked to leave her hand prints in cement in from the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. After laying down on the red carpet and laughing, Thompson got up and shrugged it off. After all, only around 200 stars were asked to leave their hand prints in front of the Chinese Theater, while Hollywood’s Walk of Fame features more than 2,000 names.
Some celebrities falling on the red carpet end up on their hands and knees, and that’s exactly what happened to Jessica Alba at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards. While their carpet was never really red, turning from black to blue in recent years, the actress certainly took a dive on it, but never stopped smiling.
Attending the 2014 Met Gala wearing a Dennis Basso Spring 2014 collection gown, her choice of stilettos was more than questionable, since the Met Ball is one of the few red carpet event where celebrities have to deal with stairs (at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute). Luckily for Panettiere, her stumbling on the stairs only lasted for a few seconds, before the actress lifted up her dress and got down safely.
While tripping because of high heels and long dresses is what leads to most celebrities falling on the red carpet, in Courtney Love’s case is was intoxication. Getting really drunk or high might have not been a good idea for the singer and actress before the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. She ended up on the red carpet at least twice, needing some assistance to get back up.
At the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, Michael Cera and his “Magic Magic” co-star Catalina Sandino decided to bring a touch of performance art to the indie black carpet. After tipping each other back and forth, Cera actually landed on his behind, and he didn’t look too comfortable after the fall.
“90210” star Annalynne McCord had her own embarrassing incident at the 2009 Teen Vogue Party. Like most celebrities falling on the red carpet, she got right back up, continuing to smile at the cameras, but her fall was certainly more cartoonish than most.

Musician and television presenter Jools Holland took a dive at the 2014 GQ Man of the Year Awards. Unlike Cara Delevingne, the 56 year old had trouble playing it cool as he lay flat on the red carpet, but once he got up, his sense of humor returned, and he took a bow in front of the cheering crowd.
Attending the 2003 Met Gala with Nicole Kidman and his own mother, Adrien Brody also had some trouble staying on his feet. As far as celebrities falling on the red carpet go, this incident could have been epic. Trying to keep his mother from falling, Brody slipped, and he almost took down Kidman too, but the actress managed to avoid the domino effect.
