Catherine and Douglas have been happily married for a decade, although there is a significant age difference between the two. "After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder," the rep said in the statement. "She's feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films."

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness which can be triggered by stress of life changes and which manifests itself through irritability alternating with depression states. Apparently, millions of Americans are affected by this disorder, and to overcome it, treatment is usually necessary. It seems that Catherine has received treatment for about 5 days and she is now feeling well.

A source close to the couple tells People that the stress which Catherine had to endure during her husband's battle against cancer has affected her, but she is feeling fine now, and is just trying to get back on track to ensure she manages to shine on the set of her upcoming movie.

"Catherine has had deal with Michael's illness and that's been hard. She went in for a few days because she's about to start working, and wanted to make sure she's in top form, which she is."
