I'm stumped about my future. Any ideas?

Now that my dream of being a model is crushed I want to do something to make people happy and feel better. I don't want to become a yoga teacher, that's what my parents do and if you ask me, they do it too often. I wanted to be a therapist but people will reveal secrets that could affect my life! I really want to make a good career choice but I don't know what?

Ps. I know I'm too young to think about it but I need an idea to help in the future, like a guideline.

The answer was not NO to the previous question. The answer was yes, BUT you need to think about it and WORK towards it, because it's not as easy as simply being pretty, thin, and tall. It's why I told you to get a portfolio or get some photos taken and send them to agencies that will take girls around the age of 13. It's the reality of things, if you want it, you have to work for it, in some way shape or form. You need to know what you want (what kind of model you want to be) and you need to know what you have to do to achieve it.

I suggest you do research. You should take 3 types of pictures and look for legitimate modelling agencies that will take young gals. Make sure the quality of the pics are good, no photoshop, and no filters.

1. First a front portrait picture of your face
2. A side profile picture, this will allow them to see your features
3. A full body picture

(usually the agencies will tell you what they look for) You need to make sure the agency is in your area and your parents are willing to take you to the shoots. (I'm assuming you've talked to them about it)

You send in those photos and wait for a call back and take it from there. If they don't call back you focus on your life and try to work on your portfolio, because if it's what you want you don't give up.

When working on your portfolio you need to make sure you choose photographers that will make you look amazing. I have come in contact with other 13 year olds from various places who wish to be models as well, what you're failing to consider is that these girls know that this is a business, and you need to know it if you want to succeed in whatever branch you wish to partake in.

Sources: I know a lot of people in the industry, photographers, models, magazine directors

I'm trying to help, not discourage, but you really need to be strong if this is what you want.

You're young, and you have tons of time to consider what you want your career to be. Why rush? Also, I'm a psychology student going into therapy and/or clinical psychology. I know this realm of the world, it's also a lot of work. Why don't you just focus on your hobbies and later come to a conclusion over what you're into more. Give yourself 2 more years. Write a list about what you like to do, and put stars around what you like to do more than others. Then google up jobs that would be good for people who like whatever it was.

Don't be a Yoga teacher if you don't want to...believe me after a time you'll get an idea of what you want to do in life....try out new things, arts, talking to people (good for therapists) and other stuff... so you discover an orientation.....:)

I was reading silences answer to your last question and how you got all upset about it. Even though she didn't say no you seemed to take it the wrong way and let it hurt you... Modeling is a very tough job to have and you'll be turned down alot (no matter how pretty you are) sometimes your not what there looking for. If you want to be a model, musician actress or anything like that you'll need to be prepared for regection. You won't always get the job and if you get turned down you have to accept that its just the person's giving the jobs opinion and you have to get up and get over it and keep on trying. If you want to be a model you need to stop being so sensitive because silence didnt even give you a bad answer.. if you want to go in any area like that you need to be prepared for insults and being told your not good enough and to get back up again and try again.. If you want to have any job like that having thick skin is just as important as the way you look or how good you are. And if one comment (that was good and helpful) that you took the wrong way you need to loose the sensitivity and no matter what people say keep trying.

If you don't think modelling is for you after what I said there think about what you enjoy doing in school. Are you more math and science orientated or are you more history nerd? If academics isn't your thing what do you enjoy doing outside of school like beauty, hair, sports etc. and think about basing your career on something you love. Don't do something you don't want to do ever..lifes way too short to be doing things you don't want to do. So if you like science think about becoming a doctor. If you like caring for people a nurse. If you like sports a P.E instuctor (just some suggestions you there are loads of other options)

Do what you want to do in life :)

Sorry if the first part of the answer was a little harsh but you need to hear it, I'm an actress and I know its not exactly the same but for getting work it's kind of a similar process to modeling. I hope this answer helped you and please don't take the first part of my answer the wrong way. I'm trying to help you not offend you :)

Always follow your dreams

I agree with Maryanne (bumble_bee_123) that Silence wasn't really being negative. Her answers are always very thorough and I think you just focused on the negative parts. She was actually being helpful by pointing out that being a model isn't as simple as just smiling prettily and walking down the runway. But just because it's hard, doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

So, I see no reason why you still couldn't aspire to be a model. You're 5'5" at 12 which means you'll probably be at least5'8" or65'9" by the time you're 16 which is a great model height. So if your dream is to be a model, by all means don't give up. There are classes you can take and auditions you can tryout for. So go for it!!

But it's always possible it on't work out and so you should have a plan B (and maybe even a C). I would talk to a counseller at school or your parents and get some ideas. But first, sit down quietly a make a list of what you like to do and what your talents/ skills are (acting, dancing, etc.). What school subjects do you like? Are you a good writer? Can you sew? What kinds of careers would you like. And don't just pick the glamorous ones, loook at things like teaching, nursing, etc. I always wanted to be a fashion designer growing up, but although I love clothes and have good taste, I'm really awful at sketching. So now, I think I want to write about fashion or be an interior decorator.

You're smart to start thinking early. But don't get discouraged if things seem harder than you think. You'll do fine.
