I need some writing tips pretty please :)

I know that a lot of people who use this site are great writers so I was hoping you guys could help me out with something! I had a story idea, it would be from a guy's point of view and he thinks he's found the perfect girl for him, they've been best friends forever, etc. etc. But in the end I want him to end up with a different girl. Obviously the new girl will have to be introduced earlier on in the story for character development and stuff, but I'm wondering, how can I introduce her without making it obvious that he'll end up with her in the end? I feel like in a lot of stories it's so predictable when the guy ends up with the girl like that, and I want it to be a total shock but then looking back on it, it all makes sense. So how can I introduce this new girl character and develop her and the guy's friendship without making it super obvious that they'll end up together? Thanks for any help you can give me!

They could have been childhood friends and through the years have lost contact with each other. Until something happens that brings them back together (family situation, tragedy).

I like Juner64s idea. Or this girl could be a friend of a friend, someone who often hangs out with them but isn't really part of the clique.
Or my second idea, depending on how old the characters are, she could be the waitress at the coffee shop or place where they hang out.

I really like isy and Juner's ideas but I think those can also be a little predictable if you don't write them right haha The girl he ends up with could be one of the other girl's friends... because there's always one friend that secretly wishes the others relationship would end... or you can have the girl he thinks is 'perfect' cheat on him or something and the new girl will see it and tell him and it will just go from there... good luck! I hope this helped! (:

try a girl at a local bakery/cafe, that works there, where he grabs a bite to eat occasionally

Don't give her a special role but still mention her at some point. fe in a place full of crowded people the guy's naming the people he knows, among them, her. Just a girl that could possibly be a friend if they dare spend some time together? Then let her work her way into the story somehow. at one point she can appear in the story again, just so the readers hear her name again. She can be coincidentally there for him at a rough moment and they can bond a bit, at which point he starts to think about her more. I'll let you work your imagination before I write the whole story. Good luck. Hopefully we'll get dibs on the story. :]
