Make up looks too harsh and makes me look older, what to do?

I love black eyeliners but whenever I use them, it makes me look really bad. I'm 21 and without make up, I look like I'm 15-16 but when I put make up on, I look like a little kid trying to look like she's 30. So I need some kind of simple make up for everyday to make my eyes stand out, but still look my age. I noticed that it looks better if I don't use the eyeliner on my waterline but rather under it, but the eyeliner on my top lid still makes me look older. I have also tried using a brown eyeliner but it ends up looking pretty much the same.

Also, I don't use eyeshadows, only mascara and eyeliner. I have fair skin and dark brown hair and eyes. I think this also makes the problem with dark eyeliners bigger, because I always look washed out by the lack of colours. I don't even know what colours would look good on me.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried maybe only putting liner on the top lid? And then maybe flicking it out a bit? I've tried that and it doesn't make me look too old. Using some neutral shadows might help a little. Maybe something like this?

try making only putting your eyeliner on the top lid, and even then only make a small line. Finish off with some mascara to tie it all together.

it your wanting an all over younger look, i'd suggest watching what you put on your skin too, sometimes the wrong type of foundation can make you look years older. so experiment with powders, sprays, liquids, and mousse until you find whats best for you (:

ease up on eyeliner and curl your lashes. a single coat of mascara would do. also, i would suggest staying away from matte foundations, they're sure to make your skin look dull and old. go for a dewy finish instead. neutral or nude shades for the eyes might work for you too.

i think eye shadows would make it look better(: greens (no not like the briight colors little kids use) purples blacks will all look nice try google-ing makeup for brown eyes most the pics are really pretty!(: also i think blush adds a nice touch... also make sure you dress your age... not like a 15 year old but not a 30 year old either... haha good luck!!(:
