I'm 20 and i live in a little crappy suburb outside of NYC. I work all the time as a bartender. On my free time I take care of my little girl, Luna and hang out with my friends/family.

What kind of vintage hairstyle should I do for my birthday party?

I don't have a picture for this one but here is some instructions for a 1940s vintage updo for short hair.

Wash your hair the day before you plan to do the vintage updo. Freshly washed hair is much harder to handle.

Spray the hair so it is just barely damp and part the hair to separate the top section in a circular fashion from the hairline around to the crown. For now, clip this section up loosely to keep it out of the way.

Begin setting the hair on the right side of the head by making a row of deep finger waves at the hairline, and moving clockwise. Follow the first row with a second row of deep finger waves, and follow that with a row of pin curls formed the opposite direction, counterclockwise. Set the short hair behind the ear in pin curls, clockwise.

Create another row of deep finger waves behind the second pin curl row and fill in the remainder of the back of the head with pin curls.

Form a half wave at the left side of the hair line, followed by three rows set in pin curls. Wind the first row of pin curls clockwise and wind the second and third rows counterclockwise.

Loosen the top section of hair and set it all in clockwise pin curls, except at the hairline, which will be counterclockwise.

Allow the hair to dry thoroughly, at least 24 hours, or sit under a bonnet-style hair dryer. Remove the bobby pins and shape the curls into place with your fingers. Spritz the hair with hair spray.
