Sounds like you got it bad. It's not a childish fear... I think it's a very real phobia of clowns since you are very irrationally scared of them.
You have clownphobia.
This idea is kinda crazy, I've got to admit...!
Talk to one. Clowns are just people in crazy dress up clothes. Find a clown (No matter how much the concept scares you) and talk to him like he is a real person, because he IS a real person. That's his job. He makes money off of trying to be funny by wearing ridiculously hideous clothes and pulling gags on his friend clowns... They're just people. Living a normal life. That's all.
Good luck!!! I wish you the best. :):):)

I totally agree with firefox_12, they are just people in suits, with wigs and make-ups and you should tell yourself that when you see a clown. But it's not as easy as that, getting over a phobia or fear can be very confrontational so best prepare yourself mentally. If you cry hysterically from just seeing a picture of a clown you'll have a mental breakdown if you march straight up to one and talk to it. Build yourself up to it. Look at pictures first, maybe watch a children TV show with clowns in, its not that scary then....Watching a scary movie with clowns in it is only adding fuel to the fire, your making it worse for yourself!
If this fear is something your overly concerned about and if your having this kind of reaction to it you need to speak to an adult about it or maybe even go see a psychologist.

Good-luck :)

I think the best thing to do would tal to a prefessional so they can help determine why you're so afraid fo them and help get rid of the fear.

Well, if it's a fear you have had even before watching the movie you probably had some traumatising childhood experience. Like I have a really bad case of cloustrophobia, it's gotten alot worse the last couple of years because of more traumatising experiences, but it probably started because I was often bullied as a kid and I have been locked into play houses, toilets and even a very small closet once.
I choose to just ignore it, because it's only when I get locked in a small room or in other ways feel trapped and that rarely happens today. Anyway, the standart way is too face you fear, I would say going to up to a clown and shaking his hand would be a good tip.

About the dreams, I guessing it's chase dreams? If it is then you should turn around and attrack/confront the thing chasing you.
