I'm emo.

Well, as you know, a lot of emos cut because they rather feel pain than nothing at all. I'm one of those people, not the cutting type, but I do use pencils to scratch and leave marks on my arm that are red. I need to think of something else that doesn't involve hurting myself. I need something that can keep my mind off depression. You know how things can get...I don't want scars all over my body, I heard what it can do and lead up to. Across the street, not down the road! I need advice, thanks guys.

Well first of all, you really should consider telling someone near you about it. I've not heard of anyone who has gotten out of their depressive state alone (if it isn't a temporary one caused by recent stressors --since you do this often, I doubt it's temporary) . If you are depressed, talk to an adult or someone older about what's causing you to feel this way and they'll help you to over come it.

But until you do so, you have to practice mind over matter, and to force yourself not to hurt yourself whenever you feel this way. You can try to gain a new hobby or skill. Photography, learning to draw, or just learning to sew or do something related to anything you like or are interested in. Stop giving cutting advice to people "across the street, not down the road" , in fact, stop thinking about it or you'll end up missing out on pleasant things. Your first priority should be seeking help, the next is working hard to get out of the depressive state and enjoying life.

I agree with silence...Everything is in your mind,so keep your mind occupied with something. And find help.

She's hurting herself because she's emotionally depressed, emo. I'm sure you were emotionally depressed too, Your not gonna just hurt yourself for nothing. I'm not trying to sound rude or anything and I'm not saying you can't call it 'self harm' but it is emotionally depressed.

Emo is a shortening for Emotional. That's what I heard. I really am emotional. The motto is, "I rather feel pain than nothing at all." I honestly think that feeling nothing is weird..so I used to do things that hurt myself, I NEVER cut, I just scratched with pencils and stuff...I understand people don't like "Emo" but...Sometimes that's how you have to explain it. Emo isn't all about self harm, it's a band genre and all that. I'm sorry for saying emo. I know I'm not..but I don't know any other way to put it.
