you can't take a shower with a perm for a certain amount of time.

well, i'm still a novice at it, and i'e been through my fair share, right now, i'm working on thickening my hair more then lengthening it, but i do have a perm wh00t! and no breakage whatsoever. here's the 411 from LOADS of research that i happened to do.

0. Pre-poo treatment- pretty much covers the hair follicles from the shampoo's harsh chemicals that screw up hair (i use eggs, mayo and jojoba oil, but a simple conditioner works fine as i said, i'm more about getting it excruciatingly thick) like macherie's (youtube her, she's AMAZING!)

1. shampoo (once a week at minimum /yes you can shampoo more, but not suggested since shampooing dries out the hair) when you wash it be sure to only do 2 washes, and massage the scalp whilst doing it , so blood can get worked through to the scalp.

2. conditioner - DEEP and daily conditioners are your BFF's . Deep penetrating conditioners ( i use olive oil deep penetrating moisturizing conditioner) definitely helps you leave it in for an hour , and rinse out with warm water (to allow it to seep in, then cold water to seal the moisture in) Light daily conditioners keep your hair moisturized you can use garnier fructice, i know neutrogena has one, you can use leave in conditioner ( i use infusium 23)

4. stay away from heat ( i swear to you, if you go near heat, i don't know where you live, but i'll throw my shoe at you D: < lol) but seriously straiteners, blow drying, etc, are all extremely bad for especially This ensures healthy , stronger hair especially when the follicles aren't dried or damaged by extreme heat.

5. Moisturizer, and essential oils: if you want you're hair to look nice and grow healthy you use specific oils that can do specific things, i use coconut oils and jojoba oil and olive oil mainly, concentrated more at the ends, since the top portion of hair is able to get oils essentially. First every night or morning or right after you wash your hair, you use a pea sized amount of hair moisturizer, and then seal it with an oil , since from science you know that oil goes on top of water when put into a jar meaning that no moisture is escaping.

6. Growth aids ( make it grow faster as well as healthier, why stop as BSL or APL or whatnot) there's loads of products to do that , ie , mane and tail horse shampoo, doo grow products , etc, vitamins (especially vitamin B promotes growth) , a healthy diet , for healthy hair etc.

7. Regular trims every 3 months or so as needed, so you don't get split ends or whatnot

fyi, all hair is the same, it's just that our hair is more drier than that of other places so we really have to moisturize and condition to keep it soft and flowy (love it when my hair just flows) so , don't be fooled about products made specificall for permed hair, because if they contain petroleum or silicone / -cones they're harmful for your use. Ie..if you can't read the ingredients on the back don't buy them, stick to natural things.

Hope that helped.

ack! btw, i wrap my hair nightly so that all the oils and moisturizers i put in can be absorbed onto the follicle and my hair comes out straight without the need of a straightener, for tips on wrapping youtube.

SOOO HELPFUL!!!

an just so you know white people's hair works differently with perms so we are NOT suppost to wash our hair for like a week because it can make our perm fall out : (

i find that to be untrue D: , i always take my showers with a perm, I condition practically every other day, or when my hair feels dry and dull, and i wash every week since washing hair too much destroys essential oils D:

it makes your hair curly correct?

lol, it makes our hair straight (since naturally our hair is just extremely EXTREMELY tight curls)
