honey or a subtle reddish hue will probably work. you want the highlight to be close to brown but not too close or you won't see it.

golden tones are really good they add body and depth to your hair and look awsome with dark brown hair :)! try a few golden and dark blonde highlights :) X X X X

ok well im basically just like you, i got my hair a burgundy colour but added dark gold and a light blend of oranges and red foils, also got it layered but so the colours would mix well but also noticabley different when not up(in a ponytail), but the thing is it wasn't a natural colour so the orange and gold came out in about half a year, then my hair went back to normal.

i like gold in brown but you can just get them to do some light brown depending on how subtle you want



a light brown can still be enough shades lighter to see a difference (like a chestnut in a deep brown) golden highlights would be very noticeable but the colors to blend well
