I have been a "headbanger" since I was 13 yrs old.  I am still rockin' !! I have always enjoyed different hair colors or hair styles but have always leaned to long hair.

How do I get the inside of my hair white?

My natural hair is reddish brown (more red than brown) but I have been coloring my hair jet black for 4 years. My hair is 40 inches from the top of my head. I wish to cut it a little shorter, keep the black on top and do the inside of my hair white. how can I achieve that?

you're going to have to undergo an intense series of bleaching , just to remove the black colour from your hair. This will leave it extreme damaged and weak, so make sure you condition it and keep it healthy as best as you can, before and after all these treatments.
If you go to the hair salon (which is probably your best option) they'll know how to do it safely and effectively. Bringing in a picture of something similar that you want will also give them an idea on how to go about doing it.

i agree with silence_.
My friend has been coloring her hair for a long while and to change the color or even just for her to color it back to her natural color they need to strip out the black completely. It is very damaging
