nail gone for good?

My friend recently had a pedicure-related infection which led her to a nasty blister under her toenail. It has healed now and she finally took the bandage off. I couldn't help but cringe at what I saw-- more than half of her nail is gone and an itty-bitty part of it is left at the base but it doesn't look very good either. it actually appears like it might come off as well! I'm pretty grossed out to be honest, yet feel sorry for my friend at the same time. Is she gonna grow a new nail? her foot kinda looks strange without it, you know..

Providing there has been no permanent damage to the nail bed, the nail usually grows back over 6-9 months. The old nail has been giving shelter to the new one in its early stages of growth.Make sure she doesn't put undue pressure on the toe otherwise it might become in-growing.It's probably best if she sees a podiatrist or chiropodist though.

lol yea i've seen ppl with their's toes stubbed really bad and the nail looks infected and falls off then it grows back. normally it'll be just fine as long as she keeps it clean

A toenail can take up to 6-7 months to grow back. she should Find a good nail tech who specializes in sculptured acrylic nails and have them sculpt a toenail for her. This can be maintained until the natural nail grows back. Be sure to keep the nail very clean and dry as much as possible, and tell her to visit herr nail tech regularly for maintenance.
