What's your view on corsets?

When I say corsets I mean body shaping corsets not fashionable ones.

I don't know heaps about them but I've done some intense google and youtube research but it doesn't seem to be enough because I don't know who to buy from and where or if I should.

I just want a 4 inch smaller waist because my shape is like |__| this at the moment. Just straight.

Anyway, your thoughts, positive or negative are welcome !

I don't know much about them. But I feel your pain! I have always felt like I have a boyish figure. And I would love to have curves. I wonder if those shapewear things that control your stomach would work similar to one? If they would it would be a lot more comfortable.

I love corsets and so long as you get a good fit, they are extremely comfortable! You need to look for steel boned corsets, ideally spiral steel or a mix of spiral and flat steels as these have been results and are more comfortable to wear. If you're not big to start with, you probably won't reduce your waist by 4" straight away, I and most people I know start with the corset pulling them in by about 2 - 2.5" but hey that's a dress size down at the waist :)

The key thing is to get one that fits really well and don't believe places or people who say 'buy 4" smaller than your waist for a good fit' that means the corset will fit your waist but what about the hips? I now buy my corsets for Corset Heaven, they give the measurements of the hip to waist so you can tell if it will be a good fit and if you're not sure, the lady there is really helpful.

If you want to reduce your waist permanently, even without a corset, then you will need to wear it pretty much every day or at least 8 - 12 hours (even more important to get a really comfortable one) and you will find that gradually over time you will lace the corset tighter and tighter until you can fully close the corset. When you take the corset off, your waist will expand but over time it will get less and less. You will never be the same waist size as you can lace your corset to but a lot closer to it.

The thing to remember is to take it slowly, listen if your body is telling you the corset is too tight (loosen it)! Patience is the key but the results can be amazing and certainly no health problems. My favourites are my underbust corsets as these have far more dramatic results. I have the Juno and the Luna corsets both were made to measure and fit really well, see the 'waist training' section on

You won't know until you try! Good luck and let us know how you get on.
