What does it take to be a cheerleader?

I'm thinking about trying out for the cheerleading squad in highschool (I'm going into 8th now), but I'm not sure if I have what it takes.

I have very little backround in cheerleading, and none in gymnastics.

I can yell really loud though, in shape and great at having pep :) I know how to toe touch, herkie and straddle jump well and I can kick my legs quiete high

What're are the main things I need to know, in regards of gymnastics, jumps and such?

Thanks in advance :)

Ok well you say your in shape so you won't mind the uniform, you say you've got pep and sound to be quite flexible so thats good. When we did cheerleading at my school briefly we focused on the arm movements like High/Low V, Touchdown, They are really simple to learn online. If you want; rent a few cheer movies like Bring it on, and within reason try and imitate their moves sensibly (when i was younger i pirouetted of the edge of the sofa, fell off and sprained my ankle :D) YOu will get taught moves and pick them up easy if you get on the squad.
Best of luck to you!!

I am a cheerleader and i feel we have a lot in should deffanitly try out for cheer, its a great way to meet new people and get something to do besides school, friends, and chores. Don't be afgraid i was at first too but i am very happy with my choice to continue. You sound like you can do very good jumps, which the coach will like. Try to be very tight with your moves and work out every once and a while. If you make the team try your best to stay out of the drama that some of the girls might have. its the best thing to do. Ttrust me. It takes effort, and commitment... You dont really need to know gymnastics just jumps. Try your best, always smile, and be tight and try to be very nice with the girls! Try out!! and keep smiling! :)
Gooodluck! & let me know how it goes!
