My friends dad just died today, how do I act around her?

My friend was off school today and at the end of the day she called me and told him that he'd had a second heartattack and sadly passed away. I personally am still in shock as I had talked to him loads whenever I went round theirs and he was one of the most lovely people I have ever known. She's dealing with it in s very jokey way and saying she's fine when of course she's not. She's even posted loads of stuff on Facebook which I wouldn't say is appropriate as it happened today. I'm not sure how to act and how to be there for her. I've personally never been in this position before or had someone I know well die. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers from experience which will help me to be a good friend to her. Thankyou so much for the answers so far, I really appreciate it. I think this week I will be sympathetic and talk to her about it and then next week try to take her mind off of it x

Can women be architects?

I'm at school and thinking about my future. I have wanted to become an architect for three years & recently I've been battling with myself over whether I am clever enough, am willing to give it the time and whether it is a secure career path to follow. It is one of the three: an architect, graphic designer, vet. I want to do something different to what my families jobs all are. My dad is in e-learning and my mum in journalism (so both media and marketing) and though they are perfectly nice jobs I want to do something a bit out there. I want to be successful. However I will want a family. I will have a bit of a life outside of work. I have also been reading lots of things that say architecture is a sexist career path. But I know that if I don't try then I will always say 'what I really wanted to be was an architect' and I feel although graphic design would be the obvious option it would be a bit of a disappointment for myself, could I try architecture and fall back on graphics? Thanks Thank you so much for all of your answers! You've really given me a lot of confidence and think I will definiately make a go of it if I am still as keen in a few years time. Thank you again !! :)

Does anyone here write a blog? (want to check them out)

Am looking for some inspiration in interior design and other design forms too, and as a writer of a blog myself I know how awful it is when you have no followers, or only a few even though your blog is top of its game. I'm not like promising to follow your blog or anything, and you don't have to follow mine, but I don't think I can resist a good blog. Post your blog (GoogleBlogSpot) addresses down here, mine is: your-designation.blogspot.com Can't wait to read yours! :)

I'm going to the hairdressers in under a week; what haircut should I get?

Hi, I really need some help! I'm not so sure about what kind of hair cut I want to get. At the moment I have longish hair with a dodgy side parting/fringe. I'm treating myself to getting quite an expensive haircut so I don't want to waste it but getting a little trim. However, I do want to keep my hair long but I would say a couple of inches needs to come off in order to get rid of the split ends. Still want to keep a side parting, but not a fringe. Help!! Here's a picture of me with my hair very much au naturel. Thank you for your help :)

Is my friend self-harming?

My very normal friend has started to do more 'grown up' things like smoking recently which is quite surprising. Also a week ago she had scratches on her hand and she said they hurt, i asked her how she did it and she said her and this girl were trying self harming. When I got all worried she reassured me that she was just curious... A week later she has a deep scratch on her neck/chest and a few deep cuts on her wrist. She says her cat did them, but as a cat-owner I know that it is very unlikely that your cat will scratch you that deeply and so many times before you put them down. I feel I should believe her but we aren't as close as we used to be and I have know idea whether she'd do that anymore. A month ago I'd have been like no she wouldn't but with all the smoking and drinking it wouldn't be surprising. She's a very old family friend and even though we're not close as school anymore I still care if she's hurting herself... So is she self-harming? If so then what should I do? Thankyou for your answers - but I'm not sure if its that bad yet, there hasen't been anymore cuts since then... also she's a really happy, quite popular, girl with a boyfriend and loads of friends... her and her parents get on well enough, so I don't really know if there would be a reason for her doing it... if you know what I mean...

What hairstlye should I get?

I'd like to try something a little different - but not too different! I want to keep my length, in fact I'm trying to grow my hair about an inch longer - so no shorter! No colouring either, just the cut. I'd like it to be: - Easy to maintain -The same length as it is now - Not TOO unusual! Thankyou! Xx

Bum-Slapping Boy Who Blames It On Another

Hello againn :) Well this time the title basically says it all :L I was in Design at school and we were all going to get our bags at the end of the lesson and BoyOne slaps my bum. I look around, like confused-ishh, and then BoyOne goes, "Oh it was BoyTwo!" except it was clearly BoyOne. BoyTwo doesn't say anything and someone asked me something so I like walked off. BoyOne = Practically gay, or lets just say extremely camp for now. The reality is is that he's quite a bitchy boy, whos fun to be with, and he is gay. BoyTwo = Is NOT gay,he is very confident&chatty like BoyOne&I used to fancy him. Earlier in the lesson I heard BoyOne&Two talkingabout who they liked& BoyTwo said something I didnt hear & then said "I only said it so see if you liked someone" so he took it back. BoyTwo=flirty with lots of girls,I sit with him and some others in maths and he's nice. BoyOne defo doesn't like me, but BoyTwo could? But he's v. popular&don't really know each other too well. So what does this mean?

Is TV Shack Illegal?

A few people I know use TV Shack, and I have to admit that it does sound pretty tempting... Free films and tv shows etc....However I don't want to be a part of it if TV Shack is illegal. Definitly not. I have tried looking online, but I havn't really found a definite answer, and TV Shack itself doesn't mention anything in the AboutUs page. Soo I was just wondering if it's legal or not, and if it isn't then could I be sued or sent an email told to stop it? Thankyou for your help! :D

What career path should I follow?

I'm in Year9(8thGrade?) and we've been told to choose some subjects for ourGCSE's and I realized that I need to know what I want to do with my life... I like: - Design -Art -ICT (computers) -Geography - Maths -Engllish -Languages (french and german) I always though I'd like to be an architect, but now i'm not sure! I want a highly paid job and i'm quite clever. What's thrown me off architecture a bit? Well a lot of physics is involved which i'm good at, but i'm not amazing at and also, I thought that architects earn a lot of money and even though they're kind of well paid, to be absoloutly honest, I could do better :L :L So yes, a highly paid job which involves design and art and academic subjects too :) Thankyou for helping I just am not too sure what I want to do with my life and I think now is the time to start realizing and knowing! Thanks Again; Little_Miss_Sunshine ;)

School Bags and my Mum :L

Well basically I want to get a new school bag for this new school year, and my parents pay for it as long as it is reasonably priced. I really really reeeally want to get one of those satchels which has a little handle and then a long strap - I've been seeing them everywhere at the moment. The thing is though, when I show them to my mum before she buys it she says that it's too small so therefore I can't have it. These bags are decent sized, won't break and are actually very practical, but she just thinks that they're too small. Being honest, they really aren't small, everyone has smaller ones if anything, and even my mum's close friends daughter has the same kind of style. She's just being really annoying about it, and I don't know how to persuade here. What should I do? Thankyou in advance :L :D

I feel like I'm being cut off...

Well me and my friend used to be quite close. We aren't in the same form, but we have maths together, and in maths we kind of made a little group with two other girls and this one boy. And yeah it was really nice. But then the tables got moved around and then these three boys from my form came to sit with us. Everyone else in the group new them really well and were good friends, but I don't really know them and I'm shy around boys so ... Anyway, so they're all talking and had this seat kind of on the edge of the table so I felt really left out because the conversation was all the way up the other side of the table. And like, me and my friend used to chat loads on facebook, and we always sat next to each other in maths, but now she sits another girl on our table, which is fine, but I just feel really left out. It's the school holidays now, and at easter holidays we saw each other like 2/3 times and she hasn't even called to see when I'm around and's not called me back.... Helppp!

Ohh its all so confusing RUMOURS... :S

My friend really likes this boy, and me and him and loads of other people were going on this school trip for a week, so she asked me to see whether he said anything about her. Then i saw him with his arm round this girl, so i texted her and she thought i meant they were going out, so she told loads of people. The girl he had his arm round really likes a boy who was going to ask her out but when my friend told him the "rumour" he decided to ask another girl out instead. The girl and the boy who my friend likes where really annoyed, because they are just good friends. The confronted me at the end of the trip and in the moment I said that this poor girl in our form had told me. I've got school on monday, and my friend said that i'm out the picture and that they're annoyed with the poor girl in my form, but what if they ask her and she's got no clue and they ask me whyyy????? The boy my friend likes is in my form toooooo... aarrrgggghhhh, if only my friend hadnt read the text wrong :( Thank you for helping meeeee! Me and my friend told them the truth, and they said don't worry, it happens, and everyones forgotten it, so I don't think anyone believed it :) Thankyou sooooooo much, I feel so much better now becuase no-one is annoyed at me at all, and it was you two answerers who made me do the right thing :D thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Hair on Legs... I\'m Confused

I have really fair and fine hair on my legs, but recently I've been feeling self concious about it recently, so I have bought some hair removing cream but I don't know whether I want to use it. I know that when the hair grows back it will be darker and thicker so I don't want to regret it. Obvoiusly once I've started getting rid of the hair I will carry on doing so but I don't know whter I will regret starting. What shall I dooooooo? :) If I do do it then I'll probably use the cream. My mum doesn't think I NEED to do it but she can understand how I feel like on the beach with my friends or in p.e, it just makes my legs feel really hairy. I bought some hair removing cream yesterday and I tried a test patch and I'm kinda thinking that I will start because I'm gonna have to start someday, right? Thank you for all of your help and advice though, it has really helped me :D

One of my really good friends is going out with this boy, but she is just flirting with like every boy we know. It's kind of annoying, because she's so flirty and it makes me think that if one day I like someone and she still flirts with loads of boys, and if she were to flirt like hell with a boy that i might fancy, then i don't know how it would effect our friendship, and whether one day it could mean that we're not friends anymore. I want to prevent this, but I don't reallyy know how - pleeease help mee! :) Thank you everyone who answered, you've really helped! :)

Being honest...am I pretty?

I am quite a shy person when you don't really know me and none of the boys like "like" me in that way... I have lots of pretty friends and sometimes I feel a bit uncomforatble about how I look. I just want to know your opinion and also what you think are the kind of not so nice things about me, because in a weird way that will actually make me feel better.... Thank you! :) Another photo, Thankyou everyone for your answers - they have really helped :)
