There are many diets out there and it can be very difficult to know which one is right for you. From experience, I know everyone loses weight in different ways - it can therefore be very complicated. The only way that you will learn what works best for you is through trying different regimes. However, there do seem to be some point which are just about every regime out there. I also have a few tips that worked for me but remember that they did work for me but might not work for you - you will need to learn that yourself.

Some of the main points can include:

Be determined. It can be a very difficult road and times you will want to do nothing else other than slip back into your old ways but if you are determined and motivated enough you will resist. If you cannot resist, then you simply don't want it enough. We, as human beings know how to get what we want and if we want something enough we will get it. We are naturally meant to be slim and healthy, being fat or obese is wrong and not what we were designed to do. Motivation is the key here - Just do it!

I would suggest taking a couple of before photos and look at all the photos of you that you have previously struggled to look at because you are so disgusted. Really have a good look as it will help you realise how much you need to change and how much you want to change. Don't look at photos of when you were slim as this could be a long way away and such a long-term target will only de-motivate you. Just concentrate on small goals as these are realistic and achievable.

This is not a diet. This is you changing your life. What you have been doing is abnormal and you are slowly killing yourself. You are improving your health and appearance for the long term and you will be extending your life! Do not think, I will crash this for 2 months then go back as if you do you will only put it all back on. This is a complete lifestyle change. You are changing for the better.

Weigh yourself. Don't be too alarmed as remember, after this moment you will never be this weight again, it will only come down and as the weight comes down you will look better, more comfortable, younger and healthier. People will start to notice and this will only boost you further. You will notice changes before anyone else though. When you are happy and feeling successful, store in your mind how good this feels to be doing well, but remember - it doesn't stop there. In fact it will get better and better and better.

When you begin the regime you will probably be unfit but this will also improve. I would do an hours exercise everyday in any weather as the exercise is the fundamental part of this regime. You could power walk, run, go to the gym, play sport just whatever you do make sure you sweat and make sure it's hard. Initially do cardio training only and as you get thinner and notice a weight loss, introduce some weight training. At your gym, the instructor should be able to design a programme for you.

Calorie count. Initially have around 1500 calories a day. Cut out fat and sugar as much as you can but remember we do need some of these so don't go to extreme but also don't get complacent. I would have a medium sized carb based breakfast as well as a large carb based lunch. Before dinner do your 1 hour of exercise. Here you will burn off the carbs you have eaten and they will give you lots of energy to train hard. Then have a small dinner. After dinner eat nothing unless you are very hungry and this case only have fruit. You can also snack on fruit between breakfast lunch and dinner.

Be strict with the food initially, however, as you get closer to your ideal weight you could increase your calorie intake to 2000 and then 2500 when you reach your ideal weight. You can then start having more treats as you are going to be maintaining your weight, the exercise could also go down to 4 nights per week but you will work harder as you will be fitter.

Good luck with this, Just remember motivation and determination is the key! Don't wallow in your early success - build upon it to reach your maximum potential. Trust me the end results are worth it. I lost 3st in 4 months and I can't tell you how good it feels. One last point when you are struggling with cravings "Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels!".

I've never focused on a diet yet I am knowledged that if you eat healthy foods and don't go hungry for more than 2-4 hours, your metabolism will increase. Fitness really helps too.
