Hair extensions can provide the instant gratification of a gorgeous new long hair look. It can also be costly and time-consuming to have applied.

There are both pros and cons for hair extensions. As long as you do the research and are willing to assume the risks hair extensions can be a new adventure for your hair.

---Disadvantages Of Hair Extensions:

It is a well known fact that hair extensions can do damage to your natural hair. The glue that is attached to your natural hair can burn and split the ends of your hair. This means that you will almost always be required to have the ends of your hair cut after the extensions are removed.

Also, if a lot of long or heavy extensions are added, this applies additional pressure to your scalp. One of the dangers of extra pressure to your scalp can be a thinning of your natural hair. In some cases there have been reports of headaches from the added weight of the hair or allergies to the bonding glue that is used. Everyone is different and will react to hair extensions in a different way. They are not necessarily good or bad. It depends on a number of factors that you have to consider.

If you are trying to grow your hair long, you might want to think seriously of the potential damage the hair extensions could do to your long hair quest. However, if you only would like a new look for a few months and are prepared to lose some inches along with the extensions, they can be a great solution.

The best advice is to find an expert at hair extensions and discuss all the pros and cons of the instant hair look.

Extensions are the perfect touch to make the hair look fuller and amazing usually i'd recommended using it when you just curl it because unless you have really nice extensions it looks real fake to me and I can tell who has them or not. They can't damage hair unless the clips are too tight or get caught in your hair! If you're gentle and careful and take care of them they will be wonderful! & will look wonderful too :)

Extensions should not damage your hair if properly cared for and maintained. It is very important to have an expert apply your hair extensions and thoroughly explain how to maintain your style for optimum healthy hair.
To keep your own hair healthy with extensions:
- Avoid overheating the hair that is left out of the weft. Since heat is one of your hairs biggest enemies; the damage can be as deep as the cortex is in the middle. Be careful not to use too much heat when you use a blow-dryer or iron.
- Chemical treatments like color and perm can be harmful if overused and used improperly. Make sure you do some research as to the most natural solutions and ask around to find a stylist who is licensed with lots of good referrals.
- Brush your hair gently to prevent damage; this is not just better for your hair extensions but it will also keep your own hair healthier. Purchasing higher quality hair extensions such as Pure Origins Hair should reduce the amount of shedding and leave hair virtually tangle free but in case you are using a different kind of hair extension, apply some leave in conditioner on the knot prior to combing through. This will loosen the tangles and make hair easier to comb through as well as leave hair feeling a little healthier.
- Talk to your stylist about the hair being used before having a human hair extension
- Wrap your hair at night to avoid tangle and keep natural hair flatter
- Give your hair a good wash approximately once a week. Washing too much with hair extensions can irritate the scalp
- Use a treatment on the hair that is left out. Just because you have in a weave or clip-ins, does not mean that your own hair doesn’t need the nutrients that a deep treatment can provide so be sure to give your full head a treatment every two weeks (note: this also helps prolong the life of your remy hair extensions).
- Don’t leave hair extensions in for more then 2.5 months. Hair will have knew growth at this point and it is healthiest if you take your extensions out and treat your scalp to some conditioner.
