Yaz is a great birth control pill - it's got very low doses of estrogen and progsterinine (or however it's spelled), which keeps side effects (mood swings, weight gain, etc) to a minimum. The IUD is extremely effective AND you don't have to remember to take a pill every day, but it's also got some heavy side effects - usually cramping during your period. Condoms are always a must, but they do break sometimes. The injection is effective but full of awful side effects, like yeast infections (same with the nuva-ring). Anyway, if you go with a pill or patch try and get a low dose. None of these options are cheap, either, but the IUD is a one-time purchase. It's inserted by a doctor and runs about $300. Pills are about $25 a month, and condoms run 10$ for a box of 12.

These are Canadian prices. Not sure about the UK. Probably cheaper, since the NHS is way better than the Canadian system.

i'm on a low dose pill from the health department it's very easy you just remember to take a pill every morning your period becomes very regular. the pink pills on the last week are just sugar pills and let you know you're about to have your period.

if you miss a day you just remember to take two the next day and use a back up for a week

the nuva ring is easy and only once a month

there's the shot that's super easy too

anything you choose has things to keep eye's on. you shouldn't smoke. if you feel weak alot you need to get checked. they usually do check you a few months after giving you anything to make sure it's reacting normally too

i think pills are the best way to go....i was on brevicon and then i switched to tri-cyclen lo to make my period less (it's down to 5 days...so i'm not complaining anymore)....i haven't tried shots or rings or patches before....but i like the pills because they're easy to take, and there's condoms for back up anyway.....if your health services is like mine, you can get free condoms there anyway (mine gives me like two handfuls i go for a refill....they also give lub if you're interested in that).....if your health services doesn't do that kind of thing....you should honestly have your boyfriend (assuming you have one) to provide the condoms, because you're already paying for the controceptive....i get the condoms because i can get them for free.
