As maeve already stated, too many chemicals in your hair has a tendancy to dry it and cause alot of damage, so deep conditioning treatments and hot oil treatments should help alot to restore some of the lost moisture and get your hair back to normal. It's suggested that you deep condition before dying or stripping the hair of it's colour . The reason the black didn't budge and turn brown is you can't really colour over BLACK lol, essentially you would've had to strip the dark colour by bleaching and then putting in the colour again, which is why black is such an unfavourable colour to work with sometimes. So if i were you, i'd just deep condition and make a weekly hot oil treatment (olive oil does wonders to restore moisture) and then see to fixing the colour.
