Well... split ends mean one thing: unhealthy hair. The main source of that is probably, as you guessed, the straightener. Heat fries your hair. It's okay every once and awhile, especially if you have seemingly unmanageable hair... but make sure you ALWAYS use heat protectant... The best way to prevent split ends is to take good care of your hair. Give it treats every one an a while... e.g a nice homemade hair masque or deep conditioner - even natural oils like coconut oil, jojoba oi, or olive oil can do wonders for your hair! (you can get several of those at the grocery store, by the way). Other things that have a rep for mending your hair are eggs and honey. I once had to cut off like 4 inches of split ends when I was a kid... I wasn't being bad to my hair... I was just neglecting it. Love your locks

I use Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment with Heat Protector which helps strengthen the hair, reduces the frizz, prevents new split ends and leaves the hair soft, shiny, healthy and resilient, it is really good, I used to have a lot of split ends and using this product I got my healthy hair back. :)

If you are obsessed with straightening your hair like it am, I suggest using heat protectors... They protect your hair from the heat that causes split ends and damage! :)
I use CHI heat spray!
Hope this helps :)
