How can I prevent split ends?

I have fine, straight hair. Even though it is prone to getting very oily (although, not as much as it was when I was younger), I try not to overwash my hair.

My problem is that lately, my ends have been feeling very dry and damaged- especially after showering. I don't use any hairsprays/gels, and I haven't colored my hair since September. I also avoid heat when styling my hair.

I'm worried about using too much conditioner because my hair is so fine that it gets weighed down very easily- even if I just use conditioner on my ends. However, I don't want these split ends to get worse. I just cut my hair in April and already my hair is a mess (although, I really don't think the person who cut my hair did a good job about getting rid of the split ends... and she used a VERY HOT blowdryer even though I told her that I do not like using heat on my hair.

If you have any advice, please let me know.

Try just putting conditioner in the ends of your hair and using a leave in conditioner, or wash out mask once a week.

trim those split ends off. i have a friend who trims her hair every 2 weeks. conditioner should help. and at night before going to bed, you can put lotion or olive oil on the ends of hair so it wont dry anymore.

I do just put conditioner on the ends of my hair, but my hair just gets weighed down. Am I supposed to just live with my hair being weighed down?
