you can use a heat protectant spray then use a curling iron and curl it in thin sections. when you curl you want your hair to touch the iron evenly so it curls properly

if her hair is naturally straight then there is no way to make it curly, but maybe she can make it wavy. Now, with heat she can make it curly but it may not last long especially if its very thick or long or straight, you can use a curling iron but it can be hard to get the curls to stay longer than a few hours.hot rollers are pretty effective but can get out of control curly, there are plastic spiral things you can buy at beauty supply stores that will do the same sort of thing as sponge rollers but not as extreme and they last a long time. try scrunching it and seeing how natural the curl is first and maybe try to pull off a wavy look- its very stylish right now and doesnt require heat just styling products like curling cremes and mousse so it is much healthier
