Styling tips anyone?

I have very thick, heavy and straight hair. Because it's so thick and heavy, I have a hard time styling it (especially getting volume in it as well as making it stay curly, which are the two things I'd really like to be able to do with my hair) and I was wondering if anyone has any tips as how to get volume and/or curls that will last longer than 5 minutes?

Thanks so much =)

try layering yr hair and it will seem thinner, maybe try a shorter hairstyle aswell. Cut it to about shoulder length or higher and layer it it seems much lighter i should know.. i had the same problem :)

Curl your hair with the flat iron. The curls will last longer.

Get a thin iron that is about 1 inch wide and not too thick with rounded edges. If you use a wider one, it may not work as well.

Get 2-inch section of hair between the plates gently squeeze handle together and glide iron to the ends, then wind hair around plates.

i've heard that wrapping your hair in curlers while it's wet and waiting for it to completely dry then adding tons of hairspray can help

but i can't get mine to hold a curl unless iput it up in a ponytail while it's wet, then only pull it half way through the last loop so it looks like a lil bun on the back of my head. when it's dry i have big soft waves
