Ways to stop feeling sad?

Some days I just start feeling sad... i dont know way or for what reason it just seems to happen. Sometimes it lasts for like just the day but sometimes it lasts for days. I hate it... but there is like nothing that i do that shakes me out of it. Do you ever get like that? Any good ideas for getting out of that kind of funk?

Did you ever try to look more into this and observe when these phases start happening? There always is a reason, even if you don't realize it. Finding the source is the best way to completely get over this thing. Try to reflect a bit at what might trigger this whenever it occurs again. If you just ignore it and try to forget about it by doing something fun it will just give you momentary relief but won't solve the actual issue. This happens a lot to me too, but at least I know I have a ton of problems that cause it :(

Omg, I know the exact feeling...I can get it for a few hours or it can last all week. Of course not seeing my dad, having only one friend, always getting into fights with my mom, childhood trauma and feeling like it is déjà vu everyday doesn't help. What gets me down the most…is like everyday it’s the same thing. I feel like I’m just in the twilight zone or something and repeating the same day, every day. I have depression and right now I’m going to a counselor (For deppression and cutting). Ever tried counseling? At first I was really against it, but I actually love having somebody to talk too (just remember there is a HUGE difference between a counselor and a physiatrist). The best thing you could do is find out what causing you to feel like this and tackle the problem head on. Just remember that you are not the only one who is feeling upset. But hey, if you ever need somebody to talk to….I love to talk. lol. (: Focus on your hobbies (if you don't have one get one!---I love writing lists {I know that's wierd}) and the things you love the most (Music, animals and Harry Potter xD for example)... Also, I don't know if you would be willing to, but journals are always helpful to get out all that sadness (anger, whatever). Also, think about your goals and future plans for the future (I always get really happy thinking about what I'm going to do when I get older). Good luck and I hope you feel better. :)

the same thing happens to me. and really, not hanging with friends or going some where or anything helps. the only thing that really helps me, is to sit on my bed and listen to music. or going outside and listening to my music. mainly, just like being by myself and having my music is what helps. I can think and clear my mind. hope that helps ya =)

yupp i have these phases too. not only me, a lott of people, almost everyone i know has some phases where they feel low
but if its constantly coming back, maybe u could do with a talk with yourself. it helps a lott
apart from that, u can hang out with friends, go for walks, try out exercising, cause it releases good endorphins in ur body which help in making u feel good and happy.
if it is something serious and u cant really deal with it alone, maybe u could take the help of someone elder, a school counselor or basically anyone ur comfortable with. try out different things until u realize what makes u feel better
andd no matter what, just try to be positive with your thoughts. if u think positive, u feel positive. so dont think of the negative things. instead, think about the good phases and maybe u might just get an inspiration. hope u feel better :)
i guess everyone has their own way but one thing i know is keeping it to yourself doesnt help. talking to someone u trust will always make u feel lighter

thanks soooooo much for all of your answers and suggestions....they really do help... its weird because when i am going through one of those periods..it just seems impossible to get out of it or even to think of something that might help...so having all this written down i think will help a lot.... also... yes...music. - i really do need to rely on music i think!

i can relate to u. sometimes i feel like shit too (though that could be cos my parents are assholes). there is a chance that you could be bipolar, or have another symptom that is tough to deal with. here is a link for bipolar symptoms http://www.helpguide.org/mental/bipolar_disorder_symptoms_treatment.htm
